Skipped Beats

I’ve had this pacer for going on 4 years now, a St. Judes ICD.  I’ve had two open hearts for my cardiomyopathy.

Just this past couple of weeks I started having skipped heart beats. It seems to skip like at least 2-3 times in a one minute count. It’s like it stops a beat. I read some post where a lot of people have this same thing. But, it has alarmed me.  Last big issue that I had was a major left ventricle blockage due to my enlarged septum. Which se...

Speak for my Down's daughter

My 23 year old daughter with Down's will receive an ICD next Monday April 25. She has had a pacemaker since she was a baby. She is not able to communicate sufficiently to let me know what she is feeling regarding her pacemaker and her developing ventricular tachycardia. I have read with deep interest the postings which express what many recipients have felt at different times.

My daughter has a great deal of trouble falling asleep at night but none in the car. She has attempted to exp...

Medicare and Medicaid Coverage

I believe whether Medicaid covers the ICD implant and surgery depends on the state where you live. Medicaid coverage is harder to come by nowadays.

I do know that Medicare covers an ICD implant. Medicare has paid for my last two devices.

My first implant was in October 2000, and it was paid for by my group insurance where I worked. An electrophysiologist diagnosed me with life-threatening arrhythmia along with an ejection fraction of less than 25% (CHS). I had many cardia...

Strange sensations after implant

Hi, My first posting.........
Just fitted with ICD in early Feb. Has anyone had similar sensations? (1) Cannot comfortably sleep on Left Side (ICD also LHS) (2) Have a feeling occasionally that something is 'tugging' internally, making me feel I want to cough (3) Find that any stimulants, (coffee, alcohol esp) make me jittery to an increased level. Sounds like I'm cracking up so just tell me if it sounds stupid!

Brainstorming

Well…tomorrow is the day and both, my friend and I, are brainstorming to make sure he does not forget anything important to bring up during this visit. The help we get from this forum is invaluable so a big thank you to all who contribute.

I have a question about the rate response. My friend has a provocable gradient. Will this have a negative effect on his obstruction? I wonder… Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Last night he did an experiment. (Thanks Smitty!) He too...

Device will be interrogated

My friend is going to see the doctor next Friday. This is the scheduled visit to have his ICD interrogated. I need your help on what he needs to bring up during this visit. Here are my thoughts. Please feel free to add, or correct :)

I was thinking about the rate response in his ICD. I don’t think it is on right now. I feel it might be helpful to turn it on. Right now his lower setting is at 60. Several doctors have recommended he lowers it to 50. He is reluctant. This time I think he...

Redness

I had my second Medtronic ICD implanted in May 2010, the 1st one was running low on battery power after 8 years. There has been some redness around the wound site since the implantation which has dramatically increased recently. I visited my GP who prescribed an antibiotic, and this week I saw my Cardiologist for my 6 monthly check up. He was concerned and told me to take a second course of the antibiotics, monitor my temperature, and see him in a month.

I feel well, don't have a tem...

burning pain

I am a 25 y/o female with Long QT Syndrome. I had an ICD implanted almost two weeks ago.  At first I had a lot of pain due to some difficulty the doctor had getting the device in.

Now, any time I move, I have this burning like pain about an inch below my incision.  It feels like someone is slicing me with a hot knife.

I have also had skipping heart beats since the surgery, is this normal? Thank you

Help

I am a 41 year old female who had surgery 9 years ago in Chicago to repair a coarctation of the Aorta. I went in for a routine procedure last week and the Dr. refused to do the procedure because my heart rate was between 28-32 bpm. I was at my Cardiologist’s office 5 weeks before to have an EKG and an ultrasound of my heart and was told I am fine to exercise and that my heart was in good shape.

I went back to same Cardiologist who had me wear a 24 hour Monitor and now he t...

New ICD--Disappointed

My husband just (a few days ago) had an ICD implanted. He had been SOB and was found to have a complete heart block. He is on Coreg, Lasix, and Linsinipril, and I am so disappointed that he is not feeling any better.

I know it has been a short time, but was hoping for improvement. I think those medications are causing some mental problems-he is foggy, gets confused, and has some odd stories, and this happened only after he started those (been on those since January).  He goes Th...

New to this

I am glad to find a site with positive encouragement. I am 35 and had been having blacking out spells and a week ago today I was diagnosed with ventricular tachycardia and had an ICD implanted. I was told you are too young and you look healthy. I do live an active live and have for years. I look forward to reading the encouragement from this site.  I lost my mother 11 years ago at the age of 47 to a massive heart attack with no symptoms so this all hits close to home.

Yea. I had my neck surgery March 8th and the surgeon said there was no problems. They put a magnet over the defibrillator to cut it off during the procedure. I was very scared because only 6 months ago my EF was 10 and a month ago it was in the 20's. I am 100% dependent on the pacemaker. I am hoping that with time my heart muscle will get stronger. My world got crushed when I found out I had severe Cardiomyopathy. Up until about a month ago I felt that my life was over but I was determined to ge...

Machinist

I am having an ICD implant done soon and am wondering if it will be safe to work in a machine shop using lathes, milling machines and CNC's ? I would think this would fall into Industrial tools which use large electrical motors to run them. If someone would respond to this would be very helpfull.
thanks
