weights etc

At last I’ve found a useful and informative site for PM recipients! I was wondering if anyone knew how soon after implantation it would be safe to recommence with a push up and weight regime.

I had mine fitted 8 months ago and have been very wary about heavy lifting ever since, but having read some comments on here, I’m beginning to wonder if I’m being over-cautious.  If anyone could shed any light on this matter I would be most grateful.

Warm sensation around device

Hi everyone,

I am a 27 year old female with Long Qt Syndrome. I had an ICD implanted in 2005.

In the past several days I have felt a warm sensation around my ICD. At first it would come and go but today it has been quite persistent. It seems to be internal, my skin does not feel warm to the touch. The best way I can describe it is: it is as if the device itself is heating up. It's a very strange sensation that I have not had in the 6 years that I have had the device...

How Long off work/Lead Adjustment

Hi folks,

Whilst i appreciate every one of us are individually different I wanted to get your thoughts. I had my ICD fitted 21/5 and I am still not back at work - whilst this is frustrating I appreciate that these things take time. I am still feeling quite a bit of discomfort and am not sleeping to great with a general feeling af constant fatigue....i seriosuly thought and expected this to be the complete opposite. I have also just returned from my first check up and was told that on...

Magnets

I am having problems returning to my job after a fitted defibulator because of the magnetic environment I work within.  Is there a protective vest on the market that could protect me from this?

I understand there is a lead vest on the market, but not sure if this is effective in my case .....regards

Pacemaker / Defibrillator

Hello all, I am new to the site and would like some feed back about pacemakers/defibrillators. Last week we were informed by my father's doctor that his heart is only working at 5% and there is nothing they can do for him besides putting a defibrillator in. When the procedure was explained to us by his assistant she stated that the same peice of equipment that they put in for a defibrillator can be programed to work as a pacemaker as well. But my father is only getting the defibrillator portion....

Weird pains near ICD area.

I had my ICD implanted on March 23, 2011. Ever since then I have had these weird pains. They come sudden and sometimes feel like an ant stinging me then other times it feels like someone poking me with a needle or something.

I just want to know if this is normal. It is really aggravating.

My First Real Shock

I have had my defib/pacemaker since March 2009. Everyday I feel electric currents in my incisioin area. Well, May 29,2011 I received my first shock. I was standing up and turned around and wham it hit me. I can't describe it, but I saw a flash of white light and blacked out for a few seconds, I think. I went to the er and was told my heart rate was to high but that shouldn't have made it go off, because even thought it was too high, it wasn't a danger. They also told me one of my lead was fract...

Good News

Hi, mine is a good report.

I have gone through all the beta-blockers to control A-fib over the last 10-12 years plus an external maze surgery. I have gotten to the point where my A-fib was reoccurring several times a week. Between my Cardiologist and EP we decided that an AV Node Ablation was my last resort for a decent chance to enjoy my remaining years without the fatigue and aggravation with my paroxysmal A-Fib. (I’m 74)

Since my EF is low (29%) it was determined th...

Solar Storms/2012.

I hear that in 2012 there will an increase in solar storms and that large amounts of electro/magnetic energy will hit the earth. This energy may well shut down mobile phones, effect satellites and disturb other facilities.
Does anyone know whether this will effect ICDs?

follow up to airport security

Hi everyone,
I posted a few weeks ago, about having trouble at the West Palm Beach Airport. The agent said it was ok for me to go through scanner, and my doctor said no. Well, I saw him today, and he said the new scanner is alright for people who have a pacemaker, but since I have a pacemaker/defib and am 100% depended on it, I should not go through. He is now writing a letter for me, so I will always be able to be patted down. I thought if anyone has a ICD, that maybe you should also c...

11 Shocks from ICD

Hi all, yep I have had 11 shocks since September 2010, the first was while at breakfast with my wife; seems as if I had a bad tachycardia run on my heart it it stopped completely, after I went down I had no knowledge of what happened except everyone running around the resturant saying call 911 and my wife crying. The funny thing I felt ok when I revived because my ICD fired off and brought me into a normal sinuis rhyhm.
Since then I have rece3ived more than another 10 shocks an...

Airports

I was wondering if anyone has had any problems not going thru the new scanner at the airport. I just got back from a trip to Florida, was told by my doctor, I cannot be scanned, no matter what. I was given a very hard time at the West Palm Beach Airport, even though I told them under strict orders I cannot go thru the scanner. I know the new scanner does not have metal material, but my doctor says no. I had to argue with the guy for about 10 minutes, and had to beg to be patted down. I have...

B/F with ICD

Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this. I have entered a relationship with a man who has an ICD, implanted 3 years ago. I was hoping I could find a forum for wives or girlfriends of ICD men. I have numerous questions obviously and am new in the relationship. Questions range from electrolyte levels, intimacy problems, shocks, exercise levels, etc. I ask him and he gives me the impression that he is okay. I have been to 2 dr visits, and have gone through a range of emotions from fear to relief...

Hi everyone. I went to my Cardiologist Thursday for shortness of breath. He checked my BNP and he said it was great that I was not retaining fluid. But what has really upset me, without any other tests he said that I was not progressing like he wanted me to. He said he expected when I got my CRT-D that I would get much better. I am still puzzled because he doubled my Coreg from 25mg a day to 50 mg a day and my Atacand from 4 mg to 8 mg aday. He also said he wants to send me to a Pulmonary MD be...

porsche boxster magnetic field and icd

I am to get a new icd today. I asked about my mid engine porsche boxster (2002) and magnetic fields from engine creating issues for the icd . Doctor did not think a car would give problems but I do not think he understood the boxster engine is directly behind the driver and passenger. does anyone know if this is a problem - I have only had the car a few months and hope to be able to drive it or at least ride in it after the surgery.

background if interested...(I have a new ( 4 month)...
