Well, it just so happens that my hubby thinks I need to look into getting some long term health insurance. I was thinking uhmmmm a nursing home? but I am only 56. Why would I think about going to a nursing home? Then the agent turned up and explained it in some detail. It seems that the long term care ins. is so that we can stay in our homes longer and not need to go to a "home". I have only my medical ins. now and I worry about getting too sick to care for myself in my later years. The way the...

I'm just curious, is it a good idea to use a HR monitor for the first few weeks after having a pacemaker implanted? My thought is that it will help me to see exactly what my hart rate is when doing different activities, in order to provide more information at the checkup incase I need adjusments.
I just got mine implanted 3 days ago.

Hi everyone,
I am just one week of having a pacemaker inplanted and was wondering what I should expect. Yesterday my heart rate was all over the place. I would get 3 to 4 beats very quickly then get my normal 1 per second, then get another 3 to 4 beats very quickly agian. This kept up for about 6 hours. Is this normal?

Hi everyone my 20 year old son has been told he needs an icd but says he needs more time to decide . He is active and loves wakeboarding and snowboarding and is worried he wont be able to carry on with these sports. Are there any other wakeboarders out there and did any of you take a while to come around to the idea of having the icd. I am finding it hard to understand why he is refusing it when his life could be at risk. He has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy and an mri scan has showed scarring whi...

Hi,
I was wondering if there are any support groups in the Milwaukee Wi. area? I some times feels like I need someone...face to face to talk with about this. I am getting better as far as accepting it but, somedays are not as good as others.

Are any of you old enough to remember "Dr Pierce's Golden Medical Discovery" that was painted on the sides of barns all over the mid west? Then the FDA came along and shut down all those kind of charltons and gave us the approved charltons that sell their wares on TV.
I saw an ad for some med just now on TV and an image of a barn jumped out at me from when I was probably 7-10 yrs.

I have seen several posting latly on battery life, so thought I would add mine. My Crt Pm/ ICD was implanted may of 05. I transmitt it in every 3 months, and see the EP once a year. I always get a copy of the results. I started plotting the battery voltage from the start. When I saw the EP may of 09, I showed a copy of my plot that showed the battery would reach ERI in late Sept. He said I was the first patient to bring him a plot of battery voltage. Anyway, I was right, about the middle of Sep...

O.K., I'm in my 80s and just wonder how necessary it is to have a stress test every couple of years. I just want to say no because every time I have one it seems to take a lot of energy out of me, and I no longer "bounce back". Really reaching the point of just wanting to live my life and enjoy it....no more surgeries:) aldeer

Hi, I was shocked to find I suddenly needed a pacemaker 9 weeks ago and am just beginning to come to terms with it. The wound has healed well but I am still having a lot of pain and itching over and around the site. Will this eventually settle so that I can forget about it and get back to normal.

Hi Everyone.
Well, I had my stress test this past Thursday and lasted an entire 7 minutes and 29 seconds....then passed out. :)
Now just waiting for the Holter Monitor on Nov 2 where the EP is gonna switch me from bipolar to unipolar for 24 hrs.
Spent all last weekend in the ER because of being severely dehydrated after Endo & Colonoscopy which I had on September 29...missed out on our Thanksgiving dinner, then fell down the stairs at home because i was still so...

Was cycling 2 weeks ago when I had a major dizzy spell accompanied by irregular hr and PAC's. Made it home but went to see my Dr. the next day. When interrogating my pm his jaw dropped. I had gone into "safe mode". That occurs after entering the ERI (elective replacement interval) on my pm. The problem is, I was inbetween regular (6mo) checkups and had been assured (as always) that I was "good to go" until next time and probably had another couple years left on my battery. It will be 9 yo next m...

Can anyone advise me how frequently one has to have a pacemaker clinic check up. For the past year I have had one every three months (last one May 2009) now they say it can be left for 12 months. I have had several 'episodes' since May and will probably ask to have another check up; but was just wondering if once a year is the norm.
Thanks

Hi,
It's nice to know there is a place like this for info. My mother received a pacemaker 6 years ago. She's now 87 years old. I recently heard that after death the pacemaker keeps going and it's against the law in our state (NM) to disconnect it or stop it in anyway. So the pacemaker keeps going even though the person has died. Eventually the acid buildup in the body will cause the pacemaker to stop. Is there any truth to this?
Thanks so much for any input you may have on this topic.
I'm tired
Hi Everyone,
I am new on this board so I don't know if this is the right place to post this but I am hoping someone might have some suggestions. I got my dual PM/Defib a year and a half ago and feel worse after the surgery. Prior, my ej frac was 20% but I was asymptomatic. They think it is postpartum cardiomyopathy and fortunately, I had no symptoms whatsoever. They caught the enlarged heart through an xray when I had pneumonia. I had the device implanted and felt horrible for 3 weeks.....

Happy Friday Pacemaker Pals!
Just wanted to say thanks to those of you who were so supposrtive during my hospital stay this week!
As many of you know, I had open heart surgery about 9 weeks ago to correct SVC Syndrome. After the surgery, I felt great for the first 6 weeks or so, and then I started getting strange symptoms. The symptoms progressed to the point where they were becoming debilitating, but my doctors just couldn't figure out what was wrong.
