New Replacement Message

The technical manual for the Medtronics Adapta series has a section called "New nomenclature for product battery life terms".
The terms are to become part of a new industry pacemaker standard so should apply to all makes.

The old ERI (elective replacement indicator) is now
RRT/ERI (Recommended Replacement Time.

This should make it easier to get a replacement sooner. It doesn't sound as optional as the word Elective.

Two other changes:

Headache??

I had a Medtronics Advanta ADDR01 implanted on 10/1/2009 and have had a constaint low grade headache ever since.

My first PM was implanted in 1996 and removed in 2006 due to endocarditus. During this ten years I had no head aches.

From 2006 until 2009 I had no PM at all.

Now I have a constant headache. Is this normal? and will it be temporary?

I would like to hear others experience with headaches.

Heart Monitor

I have had a monitor set up via land phone line since I had my pacemaker Sept 2008. At a designated time every 24 hours it sends report to Biotronics, pacemaker mfg. For some reason they quit receiving reoports on 9/5/09 (coincidentally that is exactly one year from my implant date). They sent me a new monitor, we have checked double checked to see that it is connected properly - pretty eze phone line from monitor to wall phone jack, and phone line to house phone (altho this is not required f...

Under the muscle vs on top?

Hi
Eleven weeks ago I had a lead revision to my Medtronic Adapta pacer. I am paced 99% of the time from the ventricle and that lead went bad. I am 41 and have had a pacer for 6 years with two lead revisions and one pacer upgrade.

My Doc removed the bad lead and then placed the devise under my pec. Well at about week 5 I thought it moved, followed up decided to play it conservative and waited 5 more weeks. I have considerable swelling, weakness and pain. Apparently it has d...

H1N1 Vaccine

If you're still on the fence about flu shots, you may want to check this out. I found the 60 minutes documentary at the end particularly interesting.

General Question

I have a Medtronic Thera dual PM. Does anybody else have the same one as me. This is my fourth one since 1984. A classmate of mine told me about this website. I wish I knew about this site a long time ago. One of the things that bother me is that when I tell people I have a PM they look at me funny. Especially when I was younger. I was only 7 years old when I got my first one put in. In HS my teacher was talking about PM for some strange reason and he kept on telling everybody that when...

Questions & Answers

I have an answer to one of James' questions about what happens when a pacemaker shifts into VVI mode due to a low battery and I have a questions, or two, about getting a replacement pacemaker.

I had a checkup today because my Medtronic PM shifted to VVI mode on the 10th and I don't know about everybody, but I have never felt worse. The interrogation showed that it is time to replace my pacemaker. I'll get that done next week I guess, maybe before. To answer one question, at my check...

Tiredness

I feel so tired lately. Just like when I had sss. The tiredness seems to wash over me starting at the top of my head and flowing down to my feet. I know I am coping with a lot lately and my family have never realised what it is like to have gone through having a pm. My pm was implanted in September 2004 and tests show there is little battery used. even though I pace 100%

I have had a heart mumur all my life. After so many beats the blood flows backwards. I often fe...

Success!

If anyone remembers, 6 weeks ago today I went and asked my pm tech to increase my upper limit. (42, heart block, upper limit 130). The tech was horrible to me. Irritable, condecending-and wouldn't make the change. Well, today I went for the follow up to track the change she did make, and lo and behold she turned my upper limit up! Thanks to all of you who were so supportive-Tracey, Snitch, Magster, Frank, and anyone I forgot (sorry if I forgot you!)

KDR 700 series Medtronic pacemaker ERI mode

Kappa KDR 700 series pacemakers

Elective Replacement Indicator (ERI)
The Elective Replacement Indicator (ERI) is set when the battery
voltage drops below a certain limit. Listed below are the
nonmagnet and magnet modes at ERI.
From the point that the ERI is set, the pacemaker will operate at
ERI conditions for approximately three months for typical
pacemaker configurations during the normal operating life. At the end of three months, erratic pacing will...

Doomsday

I have just been reading about an E.bomb that is believed to have been already developed. It transmits powerful radio waves that can incapicitate an entire City for years. In my view I think anybody with a pacemaker would stand little chance of survival if anywhere near a detonation.Read it on:

pacer sticking out

My pacemaker was placed in a spot that has some serious scar tissue, so it won't lie flat. It's on it's side and sticks out VER MUCH. Since it's directly under my right breast, it's very difficult to wear a bra.

Any idea on how to make this lie flat without wearing an ace bandage around my body, directly under my breasts as the cardiologist suggested, for the next six months?

Detox

The Toxicologist I see prescribes a very expensive detox regimen. He also includes Bentonite clay and charcoal tablets, available at most health food stores, both for about $20.00. He says the toxins run through the bloodstream and the clay-charcoal absorb them in the intestines, eliminating them. I'm trying to discipline my face to not go "gukkkk" while consuming the clay cocktail. The clay may come in capsules, but I haven't found them in Tucson. The charcoal is in capsule form. It's not tas...

PM battery........

I have a Medtronic KDR701. I'm due for another pacemaker, the battery has a little over a year of battery life. I was told that when it get's too low it will set itself to pace only the ventricle lead at 65 bpm. Now, I have my pacemaker on standby and I also have pacemaker syndrome. I can't help to wondering what will happen to me if this thing decides to pace my ventricle lead at 65 beats. My question is, has anyone had there Medtronic pacemaker go direct to 65 bpm due to battery being low and...

Upper Limit

I went for my very first pacemaker check yesterday and it was a very interesting experience to say the least! The representative from Boston Scientific (I have a guidant Ultrua 60) basically said she could set my pacemaker at anything I wanted which I thought was interesting. Anyways I asked her to explain any changes she made and she changed the voltage from 3.5 to 2.5. the lower limit was changed from 60 to 55 at my request. I asked her about the upper limit and it is set at 150. I asked her w...

When does it get better?

Hi everyone,
I am 4 weeks post op now. I have no feeling on the surface of the pm. Think the nerves were traumatized....or something! But around the edges are still really sore. The seat belt in the car, bra strap etc... all seem to hit the edges just the wrong way.

Is this what it will be like? I "get" that it will always be in the way...but will the edges always be so sensitive?

beta blockers

For those of you who have tried different beta blockers, which have the least side effects? Do they all make you tired? How about weight gain?

If a drug has a list of ten side effects, I'll probably get nine of them! I can't even take an aspirin without side effects. Just one of the many reasons I have resisted any attempt to be put on meds! I really do not want to do this, have not in fact decided to do it yet, but the dr wants me to try a low dose because my resting rate is over 1...
