Happy birthday to me! Pacer birthday!

Just wanted to pass along how good I feel after just having my celebration today of my 4th birthday with my metal friend Mr. T. My titanium buddy. I don't wear bling around my neck like Mr. T but I wear my pocket watch under the skin like a badge of honor. I want to thank my friends on the pacemaker club for the four years of helping me to feel like a regular person. Also for making me feel normal not weird like I felt when I got out of surgery. You guy's got me through the tough times when I wa...

New to the site

Hi! I am new to the site. I just found you guys today! :) I am a 33 year old mother of 3 with a pacemaker. I had it implanted in 2001 and have not been feeling well at all. I called the doctor and went in for a PM check today and I am about 6 weeks into VVI mode and have about 40 days left on this battery. I am nervous about having a replacement done. I would love any advice, stories, ect. on how it works, and the true recovery time (not the one the doctor always seems to give :) ).
Like I...

Check up

Hi! Finally got my pm checkup yesterday, having seen the doc 2 days before, bit of a mix up but finally got sorted.

I was apprehensive it being a year, but have come away feeling a lot more settled now.

My lower rate is 70, upper rate been moved up to 120. I'd had a few afibs in the last 6 months, but only up to 120, not over 300 like the previous 6 months, so pleased i never took the flecanide because i would have thought that was the reason they had almost stopped.

Thinking of having my pacer removed

Not sure where this posting should go....but here's my short story. In 2000 when I was 55, I passed out on an airplane; my seat mate was a Mayo Clinic doctor. When I came to, he said he was concerned because he could not find a pulse for 5 seconds or so - he suggested I get tested. My GP recommended I get the full range of tests, including the tilt table. They couldn't find anything amiss until the tilt table. I lasted about 12 minutes, passed out and then flat-lined (again) for about 5 sec...

Care while fireing long guns

Does anyone know how long it takes for the fibrous tissue to encapsolate the leads in the heart before it would be safe to fire a rifle or shotgun as not to dislodge a heart lead. If anyone knows this or has had personal experince with this please respond thank's.

New

I just had my pacemaker(Atrioventricular Block, Complete, Artial Fibrilatio) put in on the 23rd of October. I can not believe how much better I feel already. Of course I am still in the recovery mode, but I feel so much better.

At wits end with tachycardia

So I was SUPPOSE to have an appt with my cardiologist today but when him and I had it out a couple months ago the dude cancelled my appts without telling me... How nice is that. Well I told his office that I have been having problems the last three weeks and that I really needed to get seen or at least have my pacemaker interrogated. They flat refused. Told me if I was having problems to go to the ER, that they would see me in two weeks. So I went to the ER. I spent a half hour with the me...

Afib tracking?

When the PM is interrogated, does it show on the report if any AFIB occurred? My husband had surgery for AFIB and so far none, as far as he can tell, but will we be able to see episodes?
thanks so much!

steri strips

One more question... they put steri strips over the incision after the PM was put in... it has been 2 weeks and they are just starting to come off. How long do they usually stay on?
Thanks!

Pacer Chicks!

Hey guys! Hope all the usual suspects are well and behaving themselves.... yeah right!!!

Miss you all!

Just wanted to say thanks for all the texts, emails and messages! I had a few dodgy days recently but feeling much better - just waiting for the results of a couple of scans I had - you know, the one where they inject you with radioactive stuff!! When I went shopping I set off 3 shop alarms because of it! The hospital warned me it might happen so I had to carry a car...

Fatigue

Just another query. Getting on really well with pacemaker now and true to everyone's word I hardly take any notice now.

Has anyone though gone through a spell of complete fatigue. My pacer is set at 45 because I enjoy running. Only twice a week but nevertheless I like to get out.

Recently I have been totally washed. Do you think my pacer is set too low. The doctor did say that he thought it might be worth asking the cardio unit.

Any help look forward to heari...

Device Check

Well, I had my first device check yesterday. I was very impressed with the PM tech. I decided to ride my bicycle to the appt., (parking there can be a nightmare). She was very knowledgeable, and took the time to explain everything about the tests she was performing in simple terms. She also told me where everything is, the pm, the leads, and where they were implanted.

I passed the tests with flying colors. My battery, will last another 8-10 years.

Daughter's pacemaker wires out through skin

My daughter has a hypoplastic heart and an abdominal pacemaker. In November 2008 one of her wires worked it's way through to the surface and broke through. The pacemaker was reimplanted without complication. Now earlier this month the same thing has happened again. To complicate matters the incision from the most recent procedure is weeping. Has anyone had any experience with this type of issue, especially among children? Thanks.
