Haven't posted in a while because my rhythym problems were "cured" by an av node ablation last year. I've been doing great ever since (at least on the pacemaker side - my CHF is another issue)
At my PM check a couple of weeks ago the tech asked me why one of the leads was turned up so high. Turns out nobody knows why, but it's been that way since January (when I had a right heart cath- which shouldn't have impacted my pm). She turned it back down and hoped that the battery would...

I recently went to California on a trip. While out there on 19 July 2009 at around 10:30 eastern time my ICD had an episode for 42 seconds. I never felt it. I was told this at one of my pacer checks. Has anyone had any experiences like this? Thanks for your time.

Hi, I was just informed by my Dr. that I will need a pacemaker. I am having trouble finding out if playing music every weekend in a five piece band, will affect the pacemaker.Seems no one knows if the amplifiers and speakers will send signals to the pacemaker. If there are any muscians out there wearing a pacemaker, please let me know your experiences with this. Thanks

This question is for those of you who have had multiple replacements. Have you had any luck rebuilding a pocket and continuing to use it? I think I've about maxed out on the number of replacements I can comfortably do in this pocket but I really don't want to move it somewhere else. The pm tech suggested getting a plastic surgeon for my next replacement to clean out the excess scar tissue and leave it where it is. I know it's a question for the surgeon, but thought I'd see what your experience i...

I am 11 weeks post implant and recently I noticed when I lay on my left side I get some weird feelings like my pacer is doing something and my HR is kicking up but if I roll over onto my back, right side or stomach they go away. I am not set up for any kind or rate response or to be paced based upon any type of movement or such but this has begun to happen more consistently and has even woken me up. Was wondering if anyone else has had this type of issue. It isn't bad enough for me to make a...

I had my check today. We turned it off to see what my underlying rate is these days.... 52!! That's HUGE for me. Last time we checked it was in the 20's. Ok, every other time it has always been in the 20's, lol. She said I was in a 2nd degree block today. Weird. I'm not going to turn it off or anything, I'm still using it 99% of the time, but it's still odd.
Battery has 4-7 mos left we've stepped up my appointments to every other month. I made an appointment with the doc while the re...

I had my first pacemaker surgery on 7/23/09 and everything seemed to be going well until 8/09/09 when leads apparently became disconnected and the pacemaker began "firing" constantly instead of when my heart rate drop. The lead was apparently stimulating my diaphram. I was taken back into the hospital to have new leads attached. Has anyone ever hhad this happen to them? The second surgeon explained that it was nothing that I had done and said that he was putting in longer leads. In the mean...

I recently had to go to Hawaii for work, which meant dealing with airport metal detectors or security gates at Sacramento and Honolulu airport. I passed through both of them without any problems.
This is not a recommendation just a report from the field. I have a Saint Jude PM/ICD installed since May 2008.
There seems to be conflicting information about metal detectors. Here is what is on the Saint Jude website.

Hi All,
I am looking into going back to school for a new career at midlife since losing my previous job due to my pm. Is anyone here a Pharmacy Tech or Dental Assistant???
If so, any problems/complications with these jobs?
Thank you.
Take care,

Currently, I'm living in China, about 12 hours southwest of Beijing. Has anyone else been in a developing country for any length of time with a pacemaker? Ever since arriving here, I've had problems with it going off multiple times everyday, whereas at home I was only using it 1% of the time. Do you know what could be causing it to pace now? Will it hurt my heart or cause damage to the pacer with it pacing this often? My husband (who's back in the states) called my cardio doc and he said he had...

Just a tad concerned, plus I miss her weekly quotes!

This afternoon I actually sweated. Yes, I cut some grass. I was cleared by Mrs. Doc to cut for as long as 1/2 hour as long as I use a self propelled mower. It was 70+ degrees, no wind, humid. I broke out in sweat! SWEET!! I haven't sweated for 7/weeks with my quiet arm. Feeling alive! Yeah!!

I went to the DR. because I felt tired all the time and kept nodding off. I ride motorcycles and my husband threatened to bungy cord me on. So it was time to go. My norm hr is 30-45. So I get this gift. A medtronic pm. My color has changed, I have more energy, and I hardly ever nodd off (except around my in-laws). I need to know a few things. If I am pacing at 85% and hardly anything, what does this mean? If this is caused by medication (lithium) will it be normal if I stop the medication? My hr...

I bought at KMart. Anybody doing these? Do you think they are safe with PM? As always, your comments are appreciated!
