Big weight loss & PM removal

I wrote asking if anyone had their PM removed. In my case, I had weight loss surgery. When I was very heavy, my heart had to work HARD to keep all the extra tissue fed. When I lost the weight so quickly, I believe that was the cause of my heart rate lowering to 36BPM. It just didn't have to work so hard, and was in transition. Now, I'm over 160lbs lighter, and my own heart rate is higher than the PM setting (65BPM heart/60PM). I am wondering if my body has adjusted to the weight change, my he...

alcohol?

I just had 1/2 a glass of wine. Somewhere long ago, I remember reading a posting that said it wasn't a good idea if you have a PM. Does anyone know?
Thanks, Janet

Colds, Flu, Etc

I have had several people, incl pharmacists, mention that I need to be very careful if I get sick. Since PM is a foreign body in your body, you can possibly get things more severe or with complications that might not have have happened before. Anyone have comments on this????

PM removed - does it happen?

I was wondering, My pacemaker is set at 60bpm. My own heart started out at 36bpm, but in the last few months, has gone up to 65bpm. Does this mean that I don't really need the PM anymore? Does a PM ever get removed? I just thought that I would ask. Has anyone had it removed, or know of any case? I will be seeing my Dr. in 2 weeks, and was thinking of asking this question, but if no one has had it done, I will not really have info. to discuss with him.

Michaela is beautiful

Michaela was a guest speaker at our annual pacemaker gathering for the hospital for sick children in toronto and was absolutely beautiful in so many ways!
The parents, children, coordinators, staff were all thankful for the inspirational speech Miss Massachusetts.
Our theme was I CAN DO IT and was inspirational as the children performed their own special talents.
Life does go on and with the pacemaker/ICD, the quality of life is a blessing.
Thanks Michaela!!

Pacemaker Functioning

My father received his first pacemaker a couple of weeks ago. Predominantly, things are well. However, he spoke of an experience that was unsual. Once or twice per day, he feels movement in his chest. He can't locate it by placing his hand on the chest. No pain, just feels a little off. Seems like it could be gas, but is not. Interestingly, heart beat and pulse not in synch during these occurrences.

Any help or perspective would be appreciated. Enjoy the evening.

Hello My Friends!

Hi Everyone,

It has been months since I last posted. It has now been 2 and a-half years since I got my PM. Everything is still good. Had a PM interrogation last month. Still pacing 100% in the vent. but only 58% in the atrial, down from 74%. This is attributed to having been off atenolol for several weeks. Since being off atenolol I have had more energy and my emotions have returned to pretty much normal. Everyday I thank God for this technologic miracle that keeps my heart beati...

So far, welding is going fine...

So, finally back to working on a car project. Got the inner fenders of my MGB GT put in and did a lot of welding, no issues with the ICD, so that's good. I don't use mine until I exceed 220 bpm anyways, so didn't interfer with anything so far.

At least that's something....

Rate Response Turned On???

HI all,
I have a question. My EP wants to turn my Rate Response on. I told him I would have to think about it.
The reason he wanted to turn it on is that my HR increases to 170-180 while walking on the treadmill for 4 minutes.
We already knew I had tach before the PM. He wasa hoping it would get better when my HR wasn't fluctuating so much. But it didn't.
From my understanding...the Rate Response will increase my HR with movement...is that correct?
Cause I don't need tha...

Junctional Rhythm

I had to have a lead revision done over the last couple of days and seem to have developed a Junctional Rhythm.

I’m wondering if any of you folks have had experience with a Junctional Rhythm
and if so how did your doctors handle it.

Thanks in advance for your reply.

Diaphragm Paralysis

I have four questions for some of you.

1 - Do any of you have paralyzes of the diaphragm?

2 - If you do, or did, have you had surgery to correct the problem?

3 - What were the results of the surgery. Namely, how long was recovery time and how much pain did you have and for how long?

4 - Do you know what caused your problem?

To pace or not?

Hi,

I'm 31 and have complete block since birth, yet suffer no apparent symptoms. I have to confess I never really took much interest in my condition when I was younger - when I was a kid it was always explained to me as "your heart beats slower than most peoples, but it beats stronger to make up for it". I felt fine so never thought much about it. I have checkups once a year and Doctors have always told me that 1 day I might need pacemaker.

A few checkups ago one of the do...

Newbie

Hi everyone. I just joined after reading many postings for a few months. I received my ICD in June and I'm still trying to adjust. Truth is, I can't stop thinking about it. I'm so tired all of the time and seem to be in a fog. The doc says it'll take a year or so to get used to it; I try not to dwell on it, but it's been such a life changing experience!! No one seems to understand how scary all of this has been. I was found to have a heart working only 50% (EF 27%) only after flunking an...
