DX of Brady - now having extreme Tachy?

Hi there-

I searched around the site a bit for an answer to this but I have been having some problems with my pm... I had my pm put in October 2010 for brady and irregular heart beats. I went in today and there are several alerts for my heart going up to 205 bpm - for no apparent reason. This explains my recent dizziness and palpitations (and anxiety as I had recently posted). I am getting a holter put on next week but thought I'd see if anyone has heard of this since I am feeling ner...

pvc's

3 weeks into my first pm...when I lay on my left side, I start with the pvc's instantly. When I turn to the right side, they instantly stop... Dr said, (like in a comedy club), stay off your left side. Anyone have anything like this?

EMPs and pacemakers

I just read about devices (or nuclear explosions) which create an electromagnetic pulse, which then in turn knocks out all electric equipment within a certain area. Would that also knock out pacemakers in its vicinity and therefore kill people who are fully dependent on it?

I know that this is very hypothetical and the chances of dying by a lightning strike are probably even higher than this, but I think it's an interesting question nonetheless.

Back massager

Have a very bad back this week and a friend lent me a shaitzu back massager and I used it four times and then thought...oops wonder if it has magnets in it. I called homedics and found out that all their back massagers have small magnets. I ever even thought of it when they let me borrow it. Sure hope the pacemaker is ok. It makes me worried.

Shoulder Blade pain

I've had this particular pacemaker for about three years now, and about year ago I started noticing that I get a pain in my left shoulder blade ( the side my pacer is on), it feels like it needs to pop, and if I shift my back it will pop, but the pain doesn't go away. I was wondering if anyone else has hid this kind of pain.

Unable to produce red blood cells

Hello Friends,
I was recently hospitalized about two weeks ago. Turns out I was anemic and had to have a blood transfusion. I have a pacemaker, and this was my fifth transfusion. It turns out this time that my intestines have lost the ability to absorb vitamin B12, thus I lose the ability for my red blood cells to deliver enough oxygen to my body. My symptoms include lithargy and shortness of breath to the point where I almost pass out. Does this happen to anyone else?

Sirens?

has anyone had problems with sirens interfering with pacemakers? i have been having really odd heartbeats/dizziness for the past hour or two. the big sirens (i live on an island) just sounded as a tsunami warning - could this be why i have not been feeling good? is that even possible? my celly hasnt had reception for the past hour so i know there is something going on with the towers... i am not sure what this cld be if its not due to some sort of interference - i know my pm checks itself each n...

Heart hurts?

I had a pacemaker implanted mid-December and quite often my heart hurts. It is not when it is being paced because that is not happening very often from my statistics. The feeling is a dull constant pain that is uncomfortable, and sometimes worrisome, but mostly annoying. Any ideas? (I do have a-fib and other irregular rhythms less than 4% of the time, but the dull pain is more constant and I feel it maybe 1/4 to 1/2 of the time.) Thanks! This is a great group!

Solutions for Tacky episodes

I had a PM put in it Dec. Since then I've had 5 episodes were my heart rates jumps up over 100. The longest they have lasted was around 2 min but they are scary. The doctor has put me on Atenolol but I seem to be having a reaction to the meds. I get short of breath and have a heavyness in my chest when I try to do anything. Does anyone have any advise as to how to handle this? I'm calling the doctor this week.

Reminder once again...

When will I learn? That is a the question that I have to ask myself. I was having a normal day and them Bam! Stress! The more I tried to not be stressed the more the pressure grew. Some days are just like that for me. I try so hard to work through work issues, but there are some clients that are just so difficult. I usually am able to space out the challenging ones, but today all 3, all day. ugh!

I am feeling better now that I am home and the work is all done... 8 revisions la...

Weak muscle response post-implant

Hi,
I'm worried sick again. It's been 6 week since my device implant and my doc did an echo. He said that the heart muscle response was on the low end (a 53, not pulse) and could be because of the new electrical connection not working as well as a natural electrical impulse. He said low was 55, whatever that means. Again, not a pulse thing. Should I be worried about the heart muscle? Do they do reposition surgeries to get a better lead position? I have to go in for a treadmill test next wee...

pacemakers and arrhythmia

Pacemakers are life savers, but--at least for those who have not had their Atrial node removed and suffered from SSS they can cause arrhythmias. They don't often do but in my experience all too often. That doesn't mean they stop working, but they contribute to arrhythmias that were there before or bring on new ones. I don't know if this is true for those of us who had our nodes ablated and are pacemaker dependent. Harvard Heart Letter had an excellent article on this a few years back. I keep...

feeling my PM working

I had a dual lead PM fitted 1 month ago today. About two days after coming home I started getting flutterings around my heart area sometimes it feels like someone is flicking me on my chest. It mainly happens when I am bent over or if I lay on my left side in bed I can feel slight electric shocks through my rib cage as regular as hiccups would be.I dont get breathless or anything like that. I went to A&E four days ago and a nurse put me on a ECG and a pacing monitor and said she had not heard of...

Relapse?

Hi guys

I had sextuplet CABG with mitral repair back in June/10. Had a medtronics ICD implanted at the same time also. According to my EP it has never fired so far, from what Ive read here, I understand I'd know it if it did anway.

Here's my dilemma; I seem to be going backwards on recovery/health. Since I got home last summer, Ive never really felt "terrific" but could tell I was improving gradually so it gave me optimism, until around Thanksgiving when the colder air roll...

As for my pacemaker (almost 7 years old) I like to think of it in the terms of the old Timex commercial - takes a licking and keeps on ticking.
