i got a text from abby the other night, and she was saying herself, Sydney, and I should make a new pacemaker website, but this time its for the kids. since their isn't really a website for just the kids with pacemakers & other heart condititons, we should make a fudraising website. we were going too raise money too try too me...

A letter about US healthcare

His short 2-paragraph letter to the White House accurately puts the blame on a "Culture Crisis" instead of a "Health Care Crisis". Its worth a quick read:

Starner Jones, MD
I am a seventh generation Mississippian and wanted to come back here after going somewhere else for college and medical school.. My extracurricular interests are golf, hunting, fishing and college football.

Dear Sirs:

Ablation success?

It may be a bit premature, but I think it actually worked this time!
I had it at a different hospital but with the same Dr. I was prepped and they started at 7:45...and pulled the sheaths out at 4:30...OMG it was a LONG day. The EP basically did everything himself, which was strangely comforting and was very agressive in making sure that the major areas were taken care of. I must say, however, that the lydocaine wears off after 3 hours or so (ouch) and the burning hurts like hell. I total...

Pacemaker?

I am scheduled for a dual chamber pacemaker Tuesday. I'm a little nervous...and I just haven't been able to comprehend that I actually need this! I was wondering if there is anyone out there that has experienced some of the same symptoms I have.

This is my story:
Two years ago I was feeling a little strange one night (it came on suddenly). I took my blood pressure and it was 52/36 and I thought "Wow, that is low."......then I woke up. My first thought was "gosh..I fainted."...

Riding My Harley ??? Questions

I read a few of the other posts about riding a bike after the ICD was put in (Still confused). I have a Medtronic Pace/defibrillator and I would like to hear from some of you and your experiences with riding after the ICD. I had it placed 12-30-09 and will still be awhile before I can ride. Losing my bike would be like cutting of my right arm. Any advice or experiences would be helpful. Thanks, Richard

Use for old pacemaker

I was able to keep my old pacemaker. Maybe I modify it into a mini-TASER.

post surgery pain - when does it get better?

I had my bivent. PM implanted Monday. The first day was not much of a problem, but since then, I have had quite a bit of pain. I have incisions on both sides, due to failure to thread the leads from the left side. Both sides are painful, but the side with the PM is the most painful, of course, especially in the morning. There is not much swelling, no drainage or redness, just the pain and stiffness. Yesterday I thought there was some improvement, but today I have a feeling it's back to the same...

Chain saw use

I am a part time farmer and have many needs to use a gas chain saw. I hear that we(Biventricular pacers) should not use them or at least as a rule should not use them. I don't quite understand the full reason for this. Some say that because of the way your hands are positioned when holding them that the spark from the firing mechanism can travel from your hands through your ICD and cause it to malfunction. I don't see how it can do this because what you are holding is all plastic. I also have he...

GRRR well I am back to being frustrated yet again. I get to go see that fine cardiac dude next week. Short recap- had pacemaker installed in july and complete AV node ablation for atrial tach and inappropriate sinus tach. Had a lot of issues getting the right settings and ended up back on almost all of my heart meds again. I have been on flecainide and metoprolol for now ohh about 5 years. Everytime I try to come off the metoprolol, I end up back on it for one reason or another both blood p...

Final Schedule

Got my final schedule for the big event tomorrow. I check in at 11:45AM. The nurse mentioned having an antibiotic drip about an hour before and after surgery. She figured I should be ready to leave about 4:00PM so I guess the filet job starts around 1-2.

I had missed it earlier that the hospital instructions say NPO after midnight, but the anesthesiologist form says 8 hours. So I figure I'll get up around 4:00AM and have a light breakfast, then go back to bed for a while. That should...

Massage therapy

To those of you who get massage therapy: I was wondering if you have had to use some kind of cushioning around your pacer site while laying on your stomach, while having a massage? I was told by the pacemaker nurse that laying on your stomach could put pressure on your pacemaker and make your heart beat faster. I haven't had a massage since they put it in (3months) and am a big beliver in massage therapy! Thanks for any input
