another surgery :(

Well my Doctor finally believes me that my ICD is in my armpit and moves all over the place and has referred me to a plastic surgeon to have it repositioned under the muscle........My biggest question is why a plastic surgeon? I have not had my appointment with this Doctor yet and have many questions wondering if this is the right thing to do. I have had such bad luck with my ICD since day one and am not looking forward to another surgery!! :( *sigh*

Lions and Tigers and Chest Pain Oh MY!

I'm really scared and in a lot of pain. I've had really bad sharp chest pain that started late monday night. It started like jabbing pain in my right shoulder and throughout monday it moved across my whole chest and down my arms and remains like that now. It is very painful to breathe and it feels about like it did right after I got my pacemaker only a lot worse and on both sides. Normally I would run into the hospital or at least my cardiologist's office but the catch is that my new insurance w...

Thanks for the rate response response !

Thanks Tracy E , Hot heart, Mary Anne for the response about the very fast HR form just getting up and walking . Yes The rate response setting must be on. Before I got the PM I was doing the eliptical trainer at level 10 on the difficult setting for 40 mins. 3 - 4 times a week and my HR would stay around 130 - 135. Now just after getting up my HR shoots up within 10 seconds to fast to count. So.. ...tomrorrow I'l call the doc about this rate response setting . Thanks Y'all. You are the best!! Wr...

Migrating ICD

Tomorrow(3/25/09) I go see my EP for my 1st official check-up/reprogramming since surgery on 2/10/09. I noticed that my ICD was moving under my armpit about a week after it was implanted...I went in to the EP clinic to ask what I should do and was given all sorts of run-around about how the odds of it moving are low and how I must have "twiddlers syndrome"...accusing me of playing with it. I was absolutely disgusted by my treatment in the EP clinic. Finally the tech saw that I was still swoll...

Cold hands and feet

My hands since my surgery are like ice all the time, is it bad blood flow or medication or both? I cant ever get them warm unless I sit in front of my little electric heater. Such a bummer as I love to ice fish in the winter and now my hands and feet get cold really fast, when my feet get cold Im about done being outside. And walking is ussally ok but god when I have to walk thru any snow or slush I have to stop hundreds of times to rest, I know the cold weather has something to do with it to, I...

Not Replacing the Battery

Hello,
My dad is 85 years old. His pacemaker controls 97% of his heart. His battery is due to be replaced and he has refused to have this done. My mom died 7 months ago and my dad misses her so much. I take care of him and he also doesn't like that..since he feels I should have a life myself. I love him...and don't want to go against his wishes. If anyone has any idea what will take place if he doesn't have the battery replaced..I'd sure appreciate any input. The cardiologist says he's ne...

Tiredness

My PM was implanted 5-24-2007 and have had little or no problems other than learning to cope with the PM. The last few days I have been experiencing tiredness and one or two times a quick dizziness. I had an appointment with my EP and mentioned this to him and he assured me the PM was doing great and the settings were fine. I have extreme anxiety and panic that I have had for many years. He stated that the above were due to the anxiety. Should I contact my Technician and see if maybe I nee...

An Infusion of Hope!

Hi Everybody,

I'm new to this forum and have had my pm only since 2/25. Its necessity came as a complete shock to me (no pun intended). The mental/emotional changes I've gone through during this process have been greater than the physical ones, but I'm adjusting well I believe, and have benefited from this supportive site.

For anyone who may be depressed about their physical state - or even if you're not - I would encourage you, if you can, to check out today's Oprah show...

Pacemaker Needs To Work FAR Less

I learned, at my latest pacemaker clinic visit, that when initially installed in 1996, my pacemaker was working over 20% of the time.

My latest check-up revealed that, TODAY, it needs to kick in 1.8% of the time--a HUGE drop in 13 years!

What I want to know is: in a few years, if this trend continues, will i even need a pacemaker at ALL any more?

I know that such things have happened. i hope it happens to ME!

Low Ejection Fraction

I am a 50 year old female, 128 pounds, 5'5", used to be very energetic but not much any more. Can a person have a pacemaker (AV Node ablation, 3rd degree heart block), low ejection fraction (40%), mitral and tricuspid valve regurgitation (mild to moderate), taking diuretics because of fluid, Wolff Parkinson's White syndrome and palpitations (I think I'm done), and still not have heart failure? They found the low EF and the valve problems with an echo about a month ago but never told me that I ha...

fast heart rate when waking quickly

It will be 5 weeks since I had my Medtronics dual chamber Pm. Today I went to do a pacer check. They changed my rate from 60/130 to 50/150 because I was occasionally getting lightheaded and shortness of breath. Now I notice when I get up and begin to walk quickly , my heart will immediately begin to beat very fast . After I stop the rate will begin to slow down after 30 - 45 seconds. Is this normal for the heart "race'' like that when I begin to walk quickly? Thanks for your help..

slow to heal

on January 21st this year i had a new device installed Bi-Ventricular ACD. it was installed where my past single lead device was installed. to date it still has not completely healed. i started with glue that did not work at all. then they stapled me up that fixed about 3/4 of the incision. then they added some stiches and that got it down to a single spot about a 1/4 in long right in the middle. for that they gave me 2 "matress" stitches and i am about a week out. as you can see it has bee...

Supplements with a pacemaker

Has anyone ever used pre-workout supplements while having a pacemaker. N.O supplements that are supposed to increase blood flow to the muscles and increase energy. I believe it releases nitric oxide. I asked my cardiologist and he said he didnt think it would be bad but didnt seem to know much on the subject. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know.

(supplements such as N.O explode, superpump 250)

Thank you in advance!
