Struggling

So Im new to the whole idea of ICD's PM's and Defibs, I am 25 and i had an ICD implanted on 1/01/10, and its been a difficult transition for me, first just coming to grips with the fact that i went into cardiac arrest at work and was given CPR from some of my coworkers, and i actually past and was gone for 6 minutes and was brought back, thank god i don't remember anything but it makes it hard to go about my normal activities without thinking about it all the time. Also my cardio put my icd at t...

Slowly Getting Better

Hello. I'm recovering from the epicardial lead placement Feb. 11th. It has been a slow, slow process with some ups and downs. I ended up in the ER Friday night with horrible chest pain. The drs. checked out my heart and pacemaker right away and did lots of blood work, everthing was great. They decided it was sort of an accumulated side effect of the darvacet, stomach acid and chest pain from three recent surgeries all stacked together. They gave me a muscle relaxant, and a non-narcotic pai...

NO PIECE OF CAKE

Hello! I'm new to this whole situation.First let me say I'm glad that so many have posted info regarding their experience. My PM was placed on 2/11/10. I went in with a great attitude even though my past surgeries have been eventful and not easy. I have fibro and many drug allergies/sensitivities. First the nurse went thru the vein wall when placing the IV. I was in surgery and although I had been given the sedation I was very aware of the local injections - they did hurt. I did feel the placeme...

Bandages

Hope this message finds everyone well this week. My wishes go out to all in the hospital recuperating and those dealing with any complications. Healing prayers from my HEART to yours.

But now I have a simple question. I had my pacemaker implant surgery on Feb 4th. How long does it take for the bandage covering the incision to come off. It has just started slowly to lift up and since I was told to keep it dry, I can't wait to jump in that shower. I have my first checkup appointment on...

T-shirts

Paul had a great idea! He went on to zazzle.com and created his own t-shirt to celebrate his pacemaker.

Here is mine. I hope you find it to be an optimistic view! If you like it...you can order one for yourself or for someone you love. Or have some fun and create your own!

Trying to get confidence back.

Since my PM implant on Feb. 2nd, I had so many ups and downs emotionally. Sometimes the whole idea of my PM just gets me down and it seems like such a battle everyday to stay positive. I read posts about people doing all sorts of activities and I feel jealous because I am afraid to even go shopping. It seems like I have lost confidence and don't trust my body. I'm always fearful something is going to happen to the leads or that they will find something else wrong. I'm afraid to walk my dog...

Psychological Management of the ICD Patient

Just read this report and thought I would post the conclusion.

Shock, age, gender, underlying pathology, industry recalls, and increased indications all have a profound effect on the psychological well-being of ICD patients. The majority of ICD patients experience a desirable quality of life and a high acceptance rate. However, 30-50 percent of patients report some degree of negative effect such as fear, anxiety, and depression at some point during their implanted life. Additionally,...

Hello

Hi everyone,
First off, I'm not going to be able to type for much longer between the pain medication and the Tylenol for the fever I'm feeling very sleepy, but I did want to thank everyone for their amazing support. My G.P came to see me this morning and basically told me that if I ever do this again she won't be so nice. I'm feeling OK. I had some swelling and distention in my abdomen last night which caused some pain and nausea, but it's a little better today after taking some of the flui...

Just want to thank you all for your kind replies to my recent post. Pookie thanks too for your kindness and constant messages; Right now I need your prayers cos my Echo report after the shocks have shown that there are multiple regional heart wall motion abnormalities. As such my EP has scheduled me to do a CT Scan on tues 23rd. I'm rather scared and worried and really hoping and praying that there's no permanent damage done to my muscles; Also praying that there's no artery blockage.

amiodarone

Had my PM done in 3/09 in emergency situation. Had CHF and an EF of 20 and a number of complications so I was in hospital a while. First I thought the PM needed tweaking but after raising the lower to 70 from 60 that was it, no more changes. I was reading the list postings and saw the ones on amiodarone and the light bulb went off. Did some researching and tackled my cardio about it last time I saw him. He didn't seem to be listening but after a lot of silence and computer typing he gave the oka...

Discomforts

Hi everyone. I had my pacemaker implanted on Feb. 4, 2010. I had the pacemaker due to my blood pressure dropping to low and when I went to sleep my heart rate would drop down to 20. During the surgery I had a few complications. First I was diagnoised with Presistent Left Sided Superior Vena Cava which just meant that the pacemaker had to go on the right side instead of the left. Then my heart was punctured. When I awoke from the surgery I was having severe pain the lower part of my throat. They...

It's Me

Hi Everyone,
It's me! I'm finally awake long enough to write something. This is going to be short and sweet (for a change). Just wanted to let you know that i have a staph infection. they figured this out last night when a friend came to visit and she mentioned the belly button piercings I had with her. It got infected and I tried to self diagnose and treat and unfotunately I let it go too far. It went into my bloodstream, but not near my heart. Because of that it affected my kidneys and al...

Xanax before surgery

Hi all. Four more days to go. I have a prescription for xanax for my anxiety issues. Do you think It will be ok to take one (1 mg) ON THE WAY to the hospital before my surgery. I understand they're going to give me things to relax me during the operation, but I know I'm going to need something to calm me before I get there. Has anyone done this?

SSS and hard workouts

I have been diaged with SSS and had a pacer put in about 7 months ago for 'heart naps' where my heart would stop beating for several seconds and cause syncope episodes. I have been working out pretty steadily since implant but have recently upped my workouts to above threshold hour plus workouts. Did my first two hour one today and feel like crap after it. About 4 years ago did these on a regular basis but today I feel like crap afterwards. Anyone else with SSS have experience with really ha...

update & Info

This is Tammy's Mom posting for Tammy...she's dictating to me. The EP was in earlier this afternoon. No infection in the blood. Counts look good and Echo showed no infection around the heart. She is experiencing lots of spasms, nausea, and pain.

The Dr. wants to put a Meditronic pacemaker in instead of a St. Jude pacemaker like I've had in the past. She is fearful of this because the batteries don't last as long. By having the Meditronic she would need to have surgeries more o...
