Hi folks!

Hi everyone, just dropped in to say hello and check in. As you know I am now officially the CEO of my own business and I only work for me. Problem is that the person who was hired to replace me at the Dr. office isn't working out so well. I went into today to help out. I had lunch with a friend and was reminded that it isn't for me to fix the problems where I used to work.
My heart is still jumping around and missing heartbeats. I am due for that checkup next week so I will wait and see wh...

me and others :)

Hi all, I am fairly new to this site, but I am more than happy to discuss issues and help if i can. I am a 15 year old female and have had my pacemaker for 6 months. I was 14 at the time of the implant.
I am not Pacemaker dependant, which means my pacemaker is not working all the time, only when i need it to. I have a fairly rare condition. Since I had the PM, my general day-to-day life has improved massively and I have no regrets whatsoever :)

If anyone wants to ask me any que...

Early Surgery

Hey ya'll.. newbie here (new to the forums). I've had a pacer since I was 16 and have had a few pacer replacements since then (the last being in May of 2002). Back in February, I had a checkup and they said I had about a year and a half left on the current one I have.

Since then, an opportunity has come up for me to takeover a small restaraunt business, but unfortunately as you're probably all aware, I'm conflicted, because it would cause a lapse in my health insurance. The insurance...

Basketball

Hi All,

Been reading this for a while and just joined today. I have a dual chamber defib/pacemaker put in on 6-16-09. I had it put in at the Cleveland Clinic and they seemed a lot more liberal with what I can and cannot do. My EP in WI is much more restrictive. My defib went off on 7-6-09 my heart rate was 300 bpm. I have a BBB and Dilated Cardiomyopathy.

Here is my question...I love playing pick up basketball at the Y, my doctor here says no way and the doctors in Cle...

Bi-V surgery, day 8 post-op

Off to the races today. Incision site still very sore, feels a bit itchy, which means the scab is healing well. I can finally sleep on my side, which has led to a lot better sleep at night (I was unable to sleep for the first 48+ hours.
I have been walking at least a mile every day, no issues. The only thing is that the incision site chafes against the shirt and becomes irritated. I fixed that. I got a large bandage and cut the ends off of it. Put it right over the site. Plenty of air gets...

A BIG THANK YOU

Hi - I just want to thank my friends on here who have given me support during my son's illness. It was endocarditis, fortunately for tony, they caught it in time before anything fatal happened and he is being discharged from hospital tomorrow, fingers x'd.
He is going into another Heart and Lung hospital next Monday for a Reveal monitor insertion. I dont know why really because they have diagnosed a leaking heart valve(pulmonary) and syncopy. They say they not going to replace the valv...

Running & heartrate

I have a Medtronic Adapta PM, which was implanted two weeks ago. I am 97% dependent.

I am a runner and with my doctor's ok, I ran on the treadmill yesterday for the first time and felt fine. Running for 20 minutes.

My question was regarding heartrate. According the HR monitor on the treadmill, my first reading was 132. Then it dropped to 107. After which it varied between 107 and 120.

I don't know what type of settings my PM is programmed for.
Definitel...

Thanks

Hi All
First game of golf today (12 weeks since PM fitted), managed 10 holes as course was very busy. Felt a bit strange after not touching a club for 14 weeks, but played ok, did cheat a bit & throw ball out, when occasionally it plugged itself in the rough, think some hesitation was more to do with the mind. Only play for pleasure anyway & it was a beautiful hot day. Have swum several times over last 3 weeks, stronger strokes each time & back to gym next week. At last I feel I am getting...

Open Heart Surgery

Hello friends!

I posted about Superior Vena Cava (SVC) Syndrome that was diagnosed during an ablation about a month ago. At first, my doctors were going to try and correct this issue with a venoplasty. After doing lots of research, and talking to some of our fellow members who have been in my same situation, I decided to talk things over with my doctor again.

My cardiologist has been great. He listened to my concerns, and has worked very closely with me over the last few...

Medical Device Hearings

Has anyone else been watching the congressional hearings on defective medical devices on CSPAN? I saw a rerun yesterday and most of it focused around the defective Medtronic ICD leads.

Of course this stuff isn't new. These days almost any corporation will withhold information and action as long as they can. Medtronic only did it for 3 years. How about the defective rudder controls on the 737 jetliner where they just finally finished replacing the last one after the problem first occur...

Very Scared and Confused

Hi All,

I am a 34 year old female that has had a pacemaker since 16. I have had 2 replacements since then and have the original leads I had in 1991. My Dr. told me today during a routine check up that one of my leads is not functioning as it should and as a result the pacemaker has to work extra hard. She said there is "information" interferring at the tip and there is no explanation for it - the interrogation showed no trauma or slippage - again she said there is no explanation....

Thanks for the % pacing answers

Thanks Frank and Inga for your thoughts and the comments you gave me. Of course it helped!

Just you to know me better: my symptoms started around age 36 - my heart rate was 35, I felt weak and dizzy all the time. It went lower and lower (20) until I was fainting. They made all the tests (ECG, ECO, tilt test, Holter) and the diagnose was I had bradycardia and also SSS.

I have a (DDDR) PM that helped until now to keep a regular beat -and it was really useful, if I may say it!...

pacer moved

I had my pacemaker installed on July 23rd. The scar is minimal as was the bruising and soreness. The last week I've noticed the edge closest to my armpit has lifted slightly and you can clearly see the edge of the unit. It's sore to touch and feels almost like a slight burning sensation when it's rubbed by a shirt etc. I called the pacemaker clinic and they kinda tried to brush off the problem saying that although it could be fixed I'd run the risk of infection if they had to open me up agai...

Catching UP

Hi PM Pals

I haven't posted for a long time as I have been battling with family problems and health problems. It certainly seems to have been a year. We have now put all plans on hold until 2010.

We flew to Melbourne for a fiftyth wedding anniversary and for Brian to see the eye specialist as he was having problems with his glaucoma and irritation in one eye. The specialist fixed his left eye witha simple procedure. We then came home via Launceston to see my specialist a...

Cow Pasture Pool

To those of you that do not play golf I apologize for cluttering up the PM Club sit with this message.

To those of you that do play golf go to the web site below and take a look. Some people in Cuero, TX have definitely put real meaning to the description of golf as Cow Pasture Pool.

Blissfully Unaware

An elderly lady went to her doctor's office rather concerned. As she was talking to the doctor, she stated "I'm not sure what is wrong, but lately, I have had gas real bad. The thing is though that they are silent and you can never smell them. As a matter of fact, I have released gas several times while we have been talking." The doctor wrote her out a script and asked her to come back in a couple weeks so that they could check on her progress.

A couple weeks goes by and the woman...

Scar tissue

Hi, i was just wondering::

I am a 15 year old female who had a PM implanted 6 months ago. As with most females, my surgeon implanted it under my left armpit. I have one 2 inch scar directly under my armpit, and one 1cm scar on my upper chest.

My question is about scar tissue,, I know that scar tissue is supposed to be numb, which the one under my arm is, but the one on my chest is not,, is that because it is so small?

Also, i have quite a bit of skin that is num...
