I am 46 years old. I had my Medtronic Adapta PM installed 8/08. I have several postings on this site regarding my post-PM racing and training. Please refer back to my other posts.
I am currently training for the Blue Ridge Relay, a 208.9 mile relay race through the Appalachin Mountains of North Carolina. My team is an ultra, we have 6 runners. My legs total 32+ miles. We are vying for the win.
This weeks training thus far:

Concern about weight training was a major concern. I had my 1st device implanted in the fall of 07. I waited until a full range of motion had returned and began more resistive exercise. This followed about 6 weeks of walking and stretching. After about 4 weeks of upperbody strength work outs my bench presses jumped by 25 lbs. This worried me at first but with careful warmups and stretching i have continued with upper body stuff My device was replaced about 13 months later ,Needed a third wire (n...

Just thought I would post about my recent encounter with a metal detector. First a little background info, my dad has been involved with a prison ministry for a couple of years, and since I not working right now, I decided to get involved also. During this ministry usually the free world men go into the prision daily for four days, on the fourth day the women, are allowed to go in for a closing service. In order for both the men and women to go in you have to undergo Dept of Corrections traini...

Hi everyone, i found this webpage about a week ago and was very impressed. I just joined.
I have my pm for six year's now and received good news from my cardiologist. My pm is still in good condition and a battery life of another 54 months.
Eventually i thought the pm's battery was dead because i was tired all the time. He just made a few minor ajustments and now i feel like a thousant bucks again.

Recently I attended the wifes side of the family reunion in PA and had to fly.
I had a PM/ICD installed in May 2008. Since May of 2008 when I have flown, I have told the TSA that I had a PM and they did a pat down check, which is a pain and takes a while. This time I decided to try just passing through the metal detectors.
I went through metal detectors at Sacramento, Ca and Pittsburgh, PA. Didnt set off any alarms and no effect on the PM and a lot faster to...

I just had a pacemaker installed last week. I really think that i am feeling little electrical impulses in my heart. It seems to come in a double patter with a very slight pause in between. The first little shock is always higher than the second. I have tried to pinpoint the specific spots, but they are not always exactly the same - they are consistently on the rt side of my heart (toward the center of my chest).
Does anyone else get these sensations? Is this just a temporary occurrence...

Okay, I'm currently able to finally sleep on my left side. But then I wondered is that a problem. Did anyone ever tell any of you not so sleep on your implant side?

Today I went to Kennywood amusement park here in Pittsburgh. I rode 2 wooden rollercoasters, The Racer, and the Jack Rabbit. I could not ride the big one (Phantom's Revenge) because the sign stated it contained magnets. I did have fun though, and I made sure I did not over do it, since I only had surgery a month ago. So for those who wonder - I did survive. There are so many other things and smaller rides that kept me busy as well. I also got to show my nifty little pacemaker card to bypas...

Hi everyone. Looks like I'll be an official member of the club within the next couple of weeks. It has been recommended that I receive a pacer/defibrilator combo.
I'm 30 years old and live a very active lifestyle - until recently anyway. I have struggled with A-fib and been on a gauntlet of pacing medicines - all of which give me the sensation of carrying a heavy backpack everywhere I go. I had an ablasion in 2006 and have had a prosthetic mitral valve since kindergarden.
I'm excit...

I haven't posted since my episode of VFib in June. The cardio doc put me on 80 mg of Sotalol twice a day to prevent future events. I am also taking 25 mg of Coreg twice a day. I slog thru the day feeling as if I'm walking thru mud - heavy tired legs & some fluid retention. Have mentioned these things to my doc & gotten the spiel that you've received the cadillac of devices & should be grateful. Excuse me but I am very grateful but it's probably not the device that's causing this feeling. Just wo...

Hey to all, have not posted in awhile so glad to be back. I am having lead extraction surgery 8/27/09. I presently have 3 leads, 1 has been capped off since a generator change in 2006, and now another one is cracked and I have 1 lead that is working. The surgeon estimated 3 hours for the surgery and if no complications you're d/c'd the next day. I was wondering if anyone has had this done and what to expect. I usually get a pneumothorax whenever leads are put in so I'm expecting to get on...

I'm glad to know that I am making people other than myself happy with my progress. I keep working through the jobs I have and the leads keep coming in. A new client said to me today that she has been showing everyone the brochure I designed for her and telling them that they need to call me! Her word of mouth is a huge asset to me. Sure can't buy advertising like that!
I continue to be encouraged by all the wonderful and positive comments written by my friends. I will never be able to say...

Who has stopped seeing the cardiologist?
Maybe I went back to work too quick, but I think I am at the end of a 40 hr week. I barely make it thru the day and I don't function well when I am at work.
At home, I can't do normal work like cooking, cleaning, laundry and the yard work I loved is too difficult.
The cardio does not seem to be helping, his offer was to increase the proamtine which has bad side effects.
I am thinking of eliminating seeing him....

Has anyone had problems with hair loss since being on heart meds like Coreg? I have noticed an increase in hair loss when I shampoo. The nurse practitioner says it isn't connected with my meds. They did some blood work to check the thyroid and it was normal.
I never had hair loss BEFORE I began the Coreg.
Thanks,
Shelia

Hi everyone, just dropped in to say hello and check in. As you know I am now officially the CEO of my own business and I only work for me. Problem is that the person who was hired to replace me at the Dr. office isn't working out so well. I went into today to help out. I had lunch with a friend and was reminded that it isn't for me to fix the problems where I used to work.
My heart is still jumping around and missing heartbeats. I am due for that checkup next week so I will wait and see wh...
