Still not feeling that great

Hi Everyone,

I had my pacemaker implanted 7 weeks ago now and I have to say that I feel the same as before. After the implant he had the resting heart rate set to 70 bpm, for me being a cyclist that was just ridiculous, I'm used to a resting heart rate of 38 - 40. I convinced him to lower it but he would only go to 60 bpm, it still feels like a train in my chest. He had the upper limit set to 130. I had started walking a lot in the mountains around here, not leisurely but at a ver...

New implanted PM

Hello,

I left a message last week about the problems with the pacemaker and what it was like to change one out. Well, I found out the fast way, Sunday I kept feeling worse and worse, so I finally went to the ER and found out that the pacemaker had shut down on the Tuesday before. They admitted me and put a new one in the next morning (Monday) and then kept me overnight to make sure everything was ok, I just got home, I am very sore but feel much better.

29 funnies.....

For those rough days: LAUGH. It's always the best medicine and has the BEST side-effects.....

1. My husband and I divorced over religious differences. He thought he was God and I didn't .

2.. I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

3.. Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them.

4.. I used to have a handle on life, but it broke.

5.. Don't take life too seriously; No one gets out alive.

Maxx

Maxx is our new puppy. Wow, I didn't realize they were so much work, but we're getting along wonderfully but he really is a handful. We've been attending puppy socialization classes and when he is 12 weeks old we can then start obedience classes.

I am very glad we decided to add Maxx to our family because he is such a positive addition to our lives. Yes, I'm finding it hard to keep up with him and my schedule as I knew it has been blown out the window, but that's okay. He certainl...

Superior Vena Cava Syndrome

I was diagnosed with Superior Vena Cava (SVC) Syndrome on Friday. This is due excessive scar tissue because of multiple ablations and my pacemaker leads.

There are four doctors working on my case, trying to figure out the best way to correct this problem. At first there were three options given to me...some that would require lead extraction, and some that would require open heart sugery.

I got a call from my doctor today. It has been decided that before more drastic meas...

Surgery

Well, back home at 4:30 from old PM site repair (second time)since June 8th. Jumped on the table, lights out in a minute at 2:30. All excess leads and terminations were removed and it was wake up time with graham crackers & tea. A 3 minute drive home and back to the keyboard. Still a little groggy but some fresh popcorn should hold me till dinner time. I sure hope that the old PM site will settle down this time. No antibiotics as I'm still on Oral Vancomycin for the gut thing from the last thr...

EMI testing

I am an Electronics Tech, and work in a place that makes all kind of stuff for nuclear energy plants (and I work directly testing them) and also alot of other things that I will not get into, & they do not know what EMI they have. They are not sure what they are going to do when I go back to work about the testing, since they found out they have to pay for it. I will have to wait and see what their decision is before I can go back. I guess when I get released from the doctor, he will have to...

One Month Tune up and Overhaul

Okay,

Going in for my one month tune up and overhaul and was wondering what to expect? Questions I have for my doc are:

Why does that damn thing still hurt (although much better than two weeks ago. Now a 1 or 2 v. a 8 or 9)?

What limitations do I have? (Can I go mountain biking, will a face plant after going over the handlebars be a problem? Basketball, contact sports?)

I have been suffering fatigue since the implantation and have had a couple of f...

I won!!

I know most of our group probably does not bowl but for those of you who do. I gotta tell you my story. I have bowled ten pins all my life from age 11. I am in 4 different halls of fame. I write a Q. and A. national bowling column that is in newspapers (bowling) and web sites all over the country. Three going quickly on 4 years ago I almost died because my heart decided it did not want to beat anymore. But with a combination of luck and good people and Drs. helping me I pulled through. Of course...

Magnets

It's a shame that magnets and implanted folk don't get along very well, because just think of the jokes we could play on people. I would consider it a bonus to have the ability to make things stick to my pacemaker.

I would definitely have a pencil on my desk rigged with a magnet on the "sharp" end to mimic a stabbing. I mean the possibilities are endless for pranks.

And Halloween....get out of here......

I mean, if we have to have these devices why can't we have...

"ticking"

I'm flummoxed! I have an intermittent "ticking" like a watch or clock. Just in very unusual hot weather, when I go to bed at night. Three nights in a row now. Not painful but drives me nuts! I assumed it was tachycardia but took my BP/pulse and it was normal. Is my battery dying? Or am I going crazy? Should I call my pacemaker tech?

coming off of medications

I have my AV node ablation in about a week. I am curious about people that have been on medications for a long period of time and what it is like to come off of them. I am currently on flecainide 100mg twice a day, Toprol XL 50 mg twice a day, midodrine 10 mg three times a day, and we just added back in Digoxin 0.25mg once a day. I am most concerned with coming off that much Toprol and flecainide. I have been on those for almost 5 years. When I have come off these for my EP studies I have g...

Meds

Does anyone have any experience of changing from an expensive brand of their meds to a cheeper generic one? Have you noticed any difference? It is supposed to be exactly the same thing in a cheeper box, isn't it? My local pharmasy ran out of my usual medication and they asked me several times if I would allow them to replace with a generic brand. Why would they make such a big deal of it, if it really is the same stuff? By the way the generic meds are almost 50% cheeper than the other brand...

Henry Allingham the worlds oldest man has died in the UK at the age of 113. He fought in the first world war and the UK has only Harry Patch left as the last soldier from those times. I am always fascinated by those who live to great age.
Henry put his long life down to whisky , cigarettes and wild wild women. Unfortunately I dont like cigarettes or whisky. Any offers? Cheers Peter

scar tissue

My pacemaker wire is just under the skin about four to six inches below my shoulder. Normally I don't notice it too much, but it is still sensitive. My pm is almost two years old, and lately I find that the wire causes a burning feeling. I am sure it is not infected and wonder if it is being caused by scar tissue buildup... any one else have that problem? Thanks for any info... aldeer

Pacemakers: Problems with......

Hi, new to board, I have had my pacemaker for about 10 yrs now, it is due to be changed. It will be my first time having it changed. I have been for the last 3-4 days been having increasing episodes of feeling funny, like when they do the test on your pacemaker where they run down to the lowest heart rate, (mine is 35 beats/per min) and you feel like you are going to pass out. Does it feel that way when your pacemaker is getting very low on battery power and needs changed?? ...or is there someth...
