My story is complicated so I will give a short version of it. I'm a 62 year old female who had a heart attack 10 years ago. I've had three cardiac arrest. I've had open heart surgery and quite a few caths. In 2005 I had an ablation and a pacer and def. implanted. I had on a few occasions, suffered from congestive heart failure. In Oct 07 the news came out about bad wires from Medtronic. My doctor felt that since I was 100% paced that I should remove the bad leads. In May of 2008 we did just tha...

A little help from the Wise, Please

My son was told yesterday that he may need a pacemaker. He is 22. In March a sinus infection turned into pneumonia. He was hospitalized for five days and released. Three days later he could not walk 10 feet so we took him back to the hospital. The infection, probably a virus, moved into his heart and liver. They did an echo cardiogram, his cardio infraction was 10/60. He was released from the hospital after five days. For two months he was on meds and saw the cardiologists every week. W...

Sacodosis Anyone?

Hi -
I've had my St. Jude's Pacer since 2004. I'm a woman who was of menopausal age, so everytime I went to the doctor to "complain" of being tired I was just given the diagnosis of "...it's just menopause....". One day I passed out at work and then the next day a pacer was implanted. Only theories were given for what was happening to me - maybe sick sinus syndrrome or a virus, etc.

Now, five years later, I've been passing out again and once again in the ER. I had a bad CT sc...

30 Day Monitoring

I got a cigarette pack sized monitor through the mail (ordered by Dr.) on Friday. I have to apply the leads, record anytime I feel "funny", keep a journal of those times, change the lead adhesive stickers, and call in to download the info every day or two.
The unit makes a "ringing" sound (like a telephone) every 1/2 hour, so that you know that it is working, and has a flashing light for those who can't hear the ringing.
The first night, I awoke, and realized that I hadn't he...

Right ! to business! Every morning from around 5am when I start waking up I am aware of a giddy, anxious feeling and find it hard to get back to sleep. It usually only lasts a couple of hours - so after my first cup of tea and running around with the kids I am better.

The giddy/anxious feeling - well, I h...

Headaches

A couple weeks ago my doctor raised my pm resting heartrate to 75 from 50. She said there had been a few issues recording on my pm and she was going to raise it up to see if it would fix the issues. I have been having horrible headaches ever since she did it. (Maybe it's just me.) I went to my primary doctor on friday and he couldn't find anything awrong. He actually told me let's have a CT done on your head just to check and be sure everything is OK. But as far as he could tell he couldn't...

Any hope? (long)

Hi Everyone,

First I have to say that I am happy to have found this site because if I hear just one more time, "just accept the fact that you have a pacemaker and move on" from a person that doesn’t have one and wouldn’t affect their life if they did have one, I’m going to scream.

I feel so lost and really angry and believe it or not a little embarrassed, as I’m sure all of you did as well at first.

Here’s...

Insurance Question

Heya there, fellow pacers. I've got a general question that I'm hoping someone can shed some light on for me. Have any of you been without insurance (in the U.S.) and had to go for a pacer check? If so, was the check free?

I may run into an insurance snafu in a few months...long story. And I know my options (Cobra etc.). I'm not here to discuss all these things. I just know that when my pm implant was done 2 1/2 years ago that the total cost of having the pm implanted (over 100...
