can your heart stop working?

Hi every body! My beautiful and lovely friends at this wonderful site. I have a question. I have a pacemaker. I also have times when my heart rate drops really low and suddenly it goes really fast. Anyway, i have passed out due to this issue, however, my doctor tells me i should not be worried because the pacemaker is not going to allow my heart rate to go too low. Ok fine...but sometimes when i have these episodes and i pass out he tells me " Its not like you are going to die the pacemaker...

Effects of an electrical shock

Well, I finally tested my pacemakers reaction to a shock this afternoon. I wasn’t planning on it, but my Jeep battery went dead so I fished an old battery charger out of the garage.

To make a long story short (short circuit?) I didn’t notice that the power cord insulation was damaged leaving a bare conductor. When I plugged it in I had one hand on the box and the other touched the bare wire. I got a really good? arm to arm jolt, which is the worse kind cardiac-wise. A...

the advisory posted march 20 1998 on the fda website is a good read . it tell about digital tv transmission and medical telemetry systems. i am sure that medical telemetry systems can withstand more outside digital interference than a mere set of pm leads or for that matter a pm itself.

Waking up at night

Sometimes it seems like I wake up at night with a jolt or something and I feel all panicky and I don’t really know what this is. It’s almost like my PM has stopped and restarted or something. I feel short of breath and I’m literally vibrating. I usually go right back to sleep but would sure like to know whats going on. Any comments? Its been almost a year since I got my PM and when things like this happen it sets the anxiety in motion again. Thanks for any comments. Jean

lead sensitivity

Does anybody know anything about lead sensitivity? The EP said something about lead sensitivity changing from time to time , I don’t understand what they mean if the leads are firmly attached to the heart wall how can the way the PM senses the leads change? I have complete congenital heart block, and have yet to receive a pacemaker. I had a CT scan recently of my stomach (for an unrelated issue), but the report came back reading that my liver was enlarged as a result of chronic passive liver congestion most likely caused by right heart failure. Up date moving it

Ok the PM nurse called they are going to redo and re check the wires on the 11th, will call with time next week because the xrays showed the PM flip up side down when it came out of the pouch. Way it happened I don't know I did as I was told and they did'nt tell my husband, so will ask when I see the Doctor.If anyone has an idea how it might have happened let me know. Thanks Anita S

exercise heart rate monitors

Hi: i would like to purchase an exercise heart rate monitor to wear during exercise; however, i am not sure if or how the device would interfer with my pm. i’m an avid gym rate and do cardio at least 4-6 times per week. In the past, pre-pm- i’ve relied on the monitors attached to the cardio equipment: treadmill; eliptical; or life cycle. And if adviseable, any suggestion with regard to product or brand?

I waited outside until my name was called. I was thrown into a dimly lit room and sat there stone faced, lost, and confused. After looking around the room, I tried to see through the window but only saw my reflection. I thought, "what is this, some kind of trick?"

Moving it

Thanks for the info. The only reson they are willing to do it now is it’s sitting on a nerve and causing me so much pain with the burning cold shoulder and when the PM is touched I get the shooting pain up my neck and shoulder. Talked to the PM nurse this AM and she told me they are looking for a open time to re do it. I don’t know how many times I have mentioned this in posts and replies, but I’ve never got an answer or suggestion from anyone. Maybe this ya’ll’s way of keeping me OUT of the chat room. Ah.....the conspiracy.

Confused.

I have no idea what to do.
I don't want to wear a bikini because of all my scars , but I want to wear one so badly at the same time.

I asked my mom if I could ever have plastic surgery to fix this problem and she said of course I could , when I stopped growing. Anything to make me feel confident and beautiful about myself. ( just no dying my hair).

I honestly am so confused about the whole thing I don't know what to do.

Kind of at a loss

Hi. I got my PM in January of this year after going to the doctor for what he told me were palpitations-"nothing to worry about but we’ll do some tests to put your mind at ease"-that turned out to be heart block.
