Just got back from hospital

Well, I'm officially bionic! I had my (dual lead) pacemaker put in yesterday, with a bit of a complication. The cardiologist took the Sleuth device out, which was well and truly stuck in the scar tissue and took a lot of yanking! Then she inserted the pacemaker itself and all went OK until she tested the lead in the atrium, which apparently isn't routine as nothing really goes wrong there, but she tests it anyway. I was aware of my right side of my tummy spasming, like hiccups but it wasn't. The...

Today @ church I gave mini speeches to all the Sunday School classes about Camp Odayin, a camp for kids w/ heart disease. It went well and hopefull I will have a big check to send off in June!!! I am sooo excited about fundraising! There seems to be a lot of support from people. My charities are:

still feel pauses

Hi everyone

I have a on demand pacemaker which I think means it kicks in if my heart rate drops below 50 beats per minute, at my last check up I was told I had used it less than 1% of the time - however I am still feeling pauses periodically and am wondering why when the pacemaker is supposed to have stopped this feeling . does this happen to anyone else.

any feedback appreciated

How long to heal completely

Hello everyone

I got my pacemaker five weeks ago. The incision has healed nicely, I'm feeling well and I've been back to work for past two weeks, However, the area around the pacemaker and my shoulder still hurt when I get up or when I have a long busy day. How long does it take for the pain to go away completely?

Thanks
Ivana

Finally getting a new one, questions...

Hi all! I'm finally getting a new pm after 11 years. it will be in the next few weeks. My questions are: I'm going from a St Jude to a Medtronic, so will the leads need to be changed? Also, is it a pretty quick recovery compared to when i first had it put in? And the last question is, I have Sick Sinus Syndrome and could have had an episode like i did 11 years ago when all this started. Fast heart rate that lasted for about an hour. I'm 38 now but this all started when i was 26. I have read that...

correlation between over exercising and having to get a pacemaker

I had a pacemaker implanted on dec 27, 2004. I'm a 43 year old and was an avid jogger, sometimes jogging 5-8 miles a day seven days a week.

I was diagnosed with bradycardia which is a slow pulse rate. That in and of itself is normal for a person that works out somewhat excessively. The problem was I would have periodic pauses of 3 seconds or more. Because of this the doctor knew the recommendation for pauses over 3 seconds was to have a pacemaker implanted. I had a second and third op...

Hmmm....

I discovered I have a coffee table....it was buried under a foot of stuff and and inch of dust! I found myself picking up some things and putting them away. Before I knew it, I had cleaned my kitchen and cleaned off my coffee table....Is this normal????

I know it is...but what I'm trying to say is that I had my AV Node Ablation on Wednesday and all of a sudden without realizing it, I'm doing normal stuff around my house...you know, doing what healthy people do without giving it a...

Off the subject

I know this is off the subject, but I had to reply to Jessie about the breadlines in America. The only breadlines I have seen are people waiting to get into the restaurants on fast food row at lunch time. My wife and I went out for lunch today and got about the last table in a new pizza buffet place. So I think your son is pulling your leg, so to speak.

Pookie Update

Hi Everyone.

Just thought I'd update everyone since I've been kinda absent for awhile.

I am feeling good these days!!!!!!!! That is why I have been missing. I'm not at 100% but I'm more mobile lately. My neurocardiogenic syncope, Meniere's, and even my chronic head pain seems to have taken a vacation so I've been getting out of the house a bit more. Yippee.

I had my ejection fraction tested about a week ago, but have to wait until March 30 for the results. I...

4 months post PM

Hello everyone,
It is now 1 month (exactly 4 weeks) since my PM was implanted and I am getting anxious to exercise again. Has anyone started doing light exercise at this stage and if so what kind of exercises and did you encounter any problems? I am also a golfer and know that I must still wait another couple of weeks before starting to swing again, but I would like to do something to loosen up my left shoulder area. I am being very cautious at this stage and make sure that I do not take...

BillMFI / Franks Question

Hi BillMFI, ElectricFrank posted a query that you may not have noticed , reference one of your comments.
The question was did you feel anything when they were using external pacing using large pads on your leg etc. I think this is a valid question as the pulse has to travel a long way to reach the heart and its power would be greatly dissapated. One could easily imagine a feint tingling or electric shock sensation occuring. What was it like and how did it feel , also for how long were you p...

pacemakers and magnets????

Hi, I hope someone can help me. My son had a pacemaker fitted when he was 2 and he is now nearly 9 years old. When my son started school he had to a have a pacemaker care plan for the school. We spoke to his Cardiac doctor about what we needed to put on this care plan. At that point he told us that my son should not have No contact with magnets and No contact sports. So with the school heath nurse we made a care plan, which has been no problem until now. My sons head teacher has decided that thi...

Going to the beach....I'm outta here!

Help, ya'll!
I'm being kidnapped by scoundrels (friends). They say they're taking me to the beach, and I have NO choice.
It's not fair.......
And what? Leave this wonderful place?

Ya'll behave, and I'll see ya'll later. That is if I don't turn into a popsicle while out listening to the waves. I'm hoping to hear some great advice from the seashells. It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to listen to them. Maybe they'll tell me good things. Lord knows, I got...
