Is Donating Blood Possible, Now?

I have been donating blood for a long time at the local blood bank. But, I haven't for a while, awaiting for my PM. Their screening is pretty tough when it comes to heart related problems, and such (lots of questions). I haven't checked if I can still donate. Does anyone do it post PM implant? Thanks.

is this very unusual?

I had my Pm Last August all seems fine, the reason I had it was because of a result from a holter monitor which showed I had 55 nocturnal pauses for over 2seconds and one pause of 4.5 second due to a second degree AV block, but I had other tests such ultra sound etc... and showed my heart was actually in very good shape!
but I have noticed something and wonder is this very unusual? I noticed sometimes that my heart seems to pace a bit fast not over the top! but say 100 bpm just by doing not...

Good morning,

After battling CHF for over 9 months that became progressively worse, I was implanted with a Medtronics Adapta on the 18th of April. Never before had I experienced anything like this. Up till the implantation, my biggest complaint was the inability to breath due to all the congestion that kept building up. Everytime I simply moved, it felt like I just ran the 440. I managed to end up with 3rd degree heart block and a pulse rate in the upper 20`s.
The day I was taken to have this thing impl...

New Heart Now Never Missing a Beat

Hello,

I am 37 and just received a PM. I am not sure how I should handle this. It is all too wierd. I had to get the PM because I was felling chest pains with shortness of breath and lightheadness. I had an angiogram which showed I had fgreat arteries. The doc concluded that I needed the PM. Once I got done with the op, It was so emotional I was crying because I could breath deeply. I immediately had tons of energy. I have so much energy that I have been having trouble sleepin...

My father has got a pacemaker implanted almost a year ago. I just wanted to ask whether anyone knows whether going to a high altitude will do any harm to the pacemaker. actually he is planning for a trip to a high spot. Please reply me as soon as possible.

one year

Well one year ago I got my pacemaker. It's hard to believe that time has already gone by. I can tell that my energy has improved with it and as more active. (though I felt fine beforehand) Even though I don't always post or answer questions I'm glad I found this site. I enjoy reading other answers. My husband/family are always there for me but they don't understand everything. Thanks for being here.

ZEPHYR

Good Morning Fellow Pacers,
I am scheduled to have lead extraction and a whole new unit installed in Burbank on May 16th. The surgeon noted that I would be getting a Zephyr model from St. Jude. I realize the press release just came out on this yesterday but I wondered if anyone oversees has already gotten this model and if so how do you feel it is working? I currently have an older St. Jude model and have had so many problems (this is my 4th surgical procedure in 2 years). The problems...

alaska

I have taken the Alaska cruise and enjoyed it. I would say to just stay on the ship and enjoy the scenery. When you go ashore in the towns in Alaska there will be 2 or 3 ships in port with about 2000 passengers each. The side walks are so full of people you can hardly walk down the street. There are a couple of train trips that are worthwhile. They get you out of town.

HRT and PMs

Further to my question as to whether there were any ladies with PMs on HRT, here is my answer to the comments received. I had my St Jude Victory DDR PM fitted 16 days ago and wondered whether HRT is permissible for ladies with PMs. Prior to the PM issue I had been intending asking by doctor if I could go on HRT.

Forgive me, but I need to post this.

I'm wondering why, when legitimate pacemaker/ ICD questions are asked, hardly any replies are made; but when someone posts a sob story, everyone rallies around that, and replies pour in?
Wasn't this site created to help inform and support pacemaker and ICD recipients? The key word here being RECIPIENTS.
Often times, one person gets all the support, at the expense of informative replies to all other legitimate members with important questions.
The comments ratio on several posts pr...

What about sex?

Thank you for the FAQ's. It addresses most of my initial concerns and questions. I received my pacemaker less than a week ago. One issue I missed has to do with sex. Is this a concern? Do I need to wait a while for sex or is that even an issue? I didn't have restrictions before the pacemaker was installed. Will I now?

Help us start a List!

Ok. Many members have been asking about all those initials and abbreviations that are always floating around this web site being used like they are common vernacular. SO...I suggest we help each other out and post what we know so that reading posts will be easier (and maybe we'll all get a little bit smarter in the process)! :) I'll even start!

VVS = vasovagal syncope
NCS = neurocardiogenic syncope
SCD = sudden cardiac death
BPM = beats per minute

EP visit

ela-girl and randrews, you asked me to keep you posted on the EP visit. I can't seem to get the private messages working so I will post here. Visit went well, the ep says I have VVS. He is taking me off all meds and he raised my bpm to 70 (was 55)for now. I keep getting light headed or dizzy episodes caused by v v s and he feels that by raising the bpm that will help get me away from them. When I have not had any for awhile he will start lowering the bpm. If this does not work he said we can try...

guest speaker

The Hospital for Sick Children cardiology department is having their annual gathering in September 2007. We would love to host a guest speaker who is also a famous (or not-so-famous) pacemaker recipient. We are looking for a sports person or a singer or someone who tends to be inspiring. We usually host a guest speaker, last year it was a magician, illusionist.
We have about 100 children and their families who attend. It is run by the fabulous medical team at HSC.
Is there any way...

cat scans and pacemakers

Hi,
I just wanted to know if anyone ever had problems when they had a cat scan? I just had a cat scan today, I have had many in the past, so I'm very used to them, but today something strange happened, I was fine when they were scanning me, but when the machine started moving around me, I felt my heart starting to beat hard, it reminded me of when I have my pacemaker turned off to see how my heart is beating, It was getting harder and faster, so I told them to stop, they thought I might be...

More Questions!

I went back in yesterday for another visit. I put off going to the ER the night before because I knew that they couldn't do anything for me. I have had my pm for 7 weeks now and this entire time has been up and down for me. My heart has started to do most of the work and has gone back into tachycardia once again. I didn't think that this would be possible as they have burned so much of my AV and SA Node. As they changed more settings on the pm they told me that overtime I would just start to ada...

Sometimes a device must be tuned a few times before it is right. My cardiologist said it is like fine tuning a car.
