New pm tomorrow

Well my 7 year old Guidant gets replaced tomorrow. My hospital has switched to Medtronic. I was told they got a better contract, meaning lower price. Not to worry says the doc. The mew one will be better and more modern than the old one. So around 10:30 AM out goes the old and in goes the new. Speaking of new, I'm a newbie here. Nice site and wish I had found it sooner. I'm a cancer survivor too and enjoy a similar site for that. Its great to be able to share info and support with so many other...

New here...

Hi everyone,

I got a pacemaker yesterday (St Jude 5826), and spotted this site on the web this evening. I'm definitely a newbie at all of this - it's been a huge rollercoaster in the past 2 months.

I'm 42, totally healthy, never have had to take any medicines long-term or spend a night in the hospital.

December 2 I had a car wreck. I'm driving along, and the next thing I know I'm standing in the highway median with a guy who pulled me out of my car before it burn...

transition to 100% paced

Are there any of you out there that had a pacer and then transitioned to 100% paced after AV Node ablation.
Can you tell a difference, or no?
I'm trying really hard to weigh my pros and cons, because I know once it's done- there's no going back.
It's a tough decision to be 100% paced, but I know that I can't keep going like I've been going. It's really a catch 22.

Any comments would be appreciated greatly. Going to see my EP in Atlanta soon.

Thought ya'll might like this one

People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime.
When you know which one it is, you will know what to do for that person.
When someone is in your life for a REASON, it is usually to meet a need you have expressed.
They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide
you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally or spiritually. They may seem like a godsend and they are.
They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Pregnant and Stressed

Hello, I have just joined this group in search for answers. I am 20 weeks pregnant with my second child. Nearly 2 years ago I found out that I have Apical Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. When I had my first child, I was unaware of this. Nearly 2 years ago I had a ICD implanted. I have the pacemaker/difib combo. I have a slow heart rate but with my heart disease I need the difib because my heart can just stop. It has yet to have ever gone off. But, here is my worries: As I said I am 20 wks preg. I r...

Surgery checklists could save lives, study reveals

I recently read this article in the National Post and thought I would share it. The idea is so simple, I had just assumed it was automatically being done.

---

Airline pilots have used them for years as a proven method to make flying less dangerous. Now there is evidence that surgical staff can dramatically curb the amount of harm they inadvertently do to patients simply by working through checklists before, during and after operations.

Employing a standard check...

PHONE CHECKS... ER MISSED PHONE CHECKS YIKES!

Ok, here's the deal.... I am in the last year of battery life. I have a St Jude Dual Pacemaker for Heart Block, Bradyacardia and I also have mitral valve prolapse. I developed Tackycardia (sp?) after the PM implant. I get nasty blood clots and I take a blood thinner, a beta blocker, HP meds and a most important of all a multivitamin! he he. I figure it can't hurt. :)

The problem is that the phone checks are every 4 weeks! I feel as if I am tied to the phone. I refuse to carry the por...

A Fib

I posted a message last night titled "Now What".

Well, I called my doctor this morning and informed him of what was going on. He was concerned that I may be having episodes of A Fib. I have done some research, and the symptoms equal up, but my pulse is rarely over 100 bpm. For those of you who experiance A Fib, what does it feel like and what are your symptoms?

I will be going in on Wednesday for an interrogation of my device. Hopefully it will shed some light!

Hello Everyone:
Haven't been on for a while. Haven't been doing the very best.
Going to the Card. tomorrow, hope that they can fix it.
Have been so tired and shortness of breath, have no energy.
Have to force myself to get dressed. Don't want to go anywhere.
Wonder if my meds. are doing this, I am on Coreg 6.25 mg.
Cordarone 200 mg. Both twice daily. Then they lowered the cordarone to once a day. Just have no will. Has anyone else felt like this. Did they change...

Smoker needs help to stop ...

Hello,
I'm new to this ~ have visited the site many times but could now do with some advice myself ~ I am a smoker and have tried very hard to stop (hypnosis, Allen Carr, patches, gum and inhalator, etc) nothing has worked. The doc said I had a good heart and that smoking isnt the reason for my pacemaker, however I'm not daft enough to think it doesn't affect things. I think I'm going t give hypnosis one mor go ~ tried the pills that are supposed to stop all cravings etc. but had very bad...

I just joined the club in December...

Hello everyone.

Great forum, and very relevant to me now. I was out in DC in December (I had been prescribed beta blockers for some time, and also statins though I stupidly stopped taking the statins about a year ago) where I was staying with some friends. We had just finished dinner and were sitting down to watch a movie. The next thing I knew someone was shining a flashlight in my eyes and asked me if I knew where I was. Apparently I had gone into v-fib, and was dead for over a min...

Snow!!!

It snowed today!!!! There was actually enough to make it look like winter!! My friend and I hung at the mall today, and I bought a shirt with a robot on it. It has a heart on its chest, so I thought it was appropriate. I don't like roller coasters, but the band is going to Orlando in March and I know at Hershey Park there were signs advising people with heart problems not to ride certain rides (which were virtually all of them). Do these apply? I went to HP with the 8th grade last year, and I fe...

In fact after the final "tweaks" of my pacemaker programming at the one year check up it is working so well that I forget I have it.
