Post Implant Pain

I had a PM implanted due to a vagas nerve problem and have been experiencing pain almost continually since the implant.
At first the doctor felt it was soreness of the collar bone due to the procedure. It has since "spread" from the collar bone across the left side of my chest. I am being followed by my second pain clinic and acupuncturist. Have been on lidoderm patches, Voltarn Gel, nerve meds, muscle relaxers and pain meds. Even had physical therapy. We are discussing lidocaine injec...

hematoma

Thanks to Frank and Bella for your comments.
I am not in the hospital. The IV treatment is at home, so I do not see a physician daily, however I have had appointments with both the surgeon and the Infectious Disease doctor since discharge. I had a chest xray which was fine and bloodwork. They do not think the sob is from heart failure, but that is what it feels like. The hematoma seems not to be of any concern, but it is still about the size of a tangerine after 21/2 wks post surgical. I di...

Pacemaker Moved

Hello everyone. I had my icd put in at the end of Oct 2009. In Dec 2009, I had a second surgery to reattach the ventricle lead to my heart. I just found out that my icd moved and the atrial lead is not working. My doctor wants me to go in for a third surgery next Monday to reposition the icd and leads. She wants to have the surgeon stitch it down. Has anyone ever heard of this or had it done? My icd is on my left side above my breast and below my shoulder. Thanks for all your help.

anyone know about this?

Hi Pacees,
I am still on IV antibiotics after surgery 4/6 to bury the pacemaker deeper. The staples are out and the incision looks good, but this big hematoma at the site is still hard and bothering me. The surgeon said not to worry, it will go away, but I am wondering WHEN? How long does it take? I can't find any info online. I am also tired and short of breath all the time. I'm really hoping the end of this stuff is near. Just wondering if the hematoma thing has happened to any of you a...

more than 15 minutes ...

Just wanted to share with you that I now can walk more than 15 minutes .. so situation is improving step by step, smoothly but surely. I am not loosing my positive attitude even if sometimes I have to admit this is not so obvious considering I am almost 3 months after my PM implant. Just frustrated because I still can not train due to SOB. It will come gradually I am sure :-)
Know also that my positive attitude is mainly coming thanks to your kind support in this amazing site !

Chest Discomfort

I had a pacemaker installed on 04/01/2010. I seemed to be getting better everyday and recovering fairly well. Last night and today I have a pain/discomfort in the upper part of my chest. I had this same type of pain/discomfort for the first 2 weeks or so and then it seemed to go away and has now come back. I feel it especially when I bend over or set down quickly. I thought it may just be the wires going from the heart to the pacemaker causing this discomfort. Any suggestions? Thanks.

I am losing my sanity

In October, 2009, I had an ICD put in which is both a pacemaker and diffibrulator. I have a Medtronic Secura. I had to have a second surgery in December 2009 because the ventricle or lower lead detached from the heart. The doctors think I may need another surgery because they are not getting a response from the top or atrial lead. My pacemaker feels that she doesn't want to use the same surgeon again since there have been problems with other patients besides me regarding pacemaker surgeries. I l...

Old Lady Shoulder Pain

Thanks for all the encouragement and notes. Have been to therapy 4 times. I don't know which is the worst, not going and hurting or going and hurting. Friday, my arm was pushed beyond where it wanted to go and held for 10 seconds. Do you know how long 10 seconds can seem when the pain is beyond the number 10 on the scale 1-10?
I can only hope that it will improve and SOON!
Apparently for some people, the limited use can create this condition
and/or inflamation. Didn't know...

Rough Night

Hi again everyone! I need some advice. I had a rough night last night. Two hours of sleep! I had my pacemaker implant on 4 Feb 2010. After my surgery my throat was hurting so bad and the doctor thought it was just nerve endings. Well that cleared up. I have been doing really good. That is until last night. I started hurting behide my right breast (pacemaker is on right side). The pain SLOWLY moved to the center of my abdominal area and proceeded to move upward. Now my throat is hurting again. Ye...

CRT coming through skin

I am a rather thin person and my device was placed under the skin on my left side. I have been doing great since the implantation however, I noticed that where the leads are attached to the device is pushing through my skin. My doctor wants to implant under the pectoral muscle but this surgery was discontinued due to a recall from the FDA for a process mistake by the company that made the device. My question is has anyone else experience this problem and is there anything other than surgery I...

Six months and going backwards

This is my first posting and is rather long winded. I apologize but I’m at a lost on what to do next. Ever since the installation of my pacemaker, it seems my health is deteriorating quickly.
I am 48 years old and have been athletic and very fit for the majority of my like. (Ideal body weight, no smoke, or drink) I have had yearly physicals, for the last 15 years and was told I was the picture of health. Until last September 2009 that is,
I passed out Sept. 2009 and was run through...

no more water :-) but air in stomach now :-(

Hi,

I was so happy when Dr said there was no more water ....
BUT he looked at me and said : the PM implant also hurted the stomach ...which does not allow my heart to beat correctly. reason why also I am obliged to yawn to take a big breath as my heart is compressed and can not play its role correctly .

Be positive ... at least I know why I still have difficulty to breath even if there is no more water ...
I just asked the doctor what would be the next issue a...

Thanks

Thanks for all the positive vibes! Home Health Care nurse came this am to set up IV meds (my husband will do it after today) and the nurse will come about once a week for labs, etc.
I really do know that I will feel better, but when you don't feel good it seems like forever, right? I know so many of you are or have been there, too, so I'm glad we have each other to rely on. None of my friends have PMs, although they have had their share of stuff, too, but this is different. I can really id...

So, my advice is to go about your daily routine and forget that you have a pacemaker implanted in your body.
